CollegeSoccer360’s Primetime Performers – Week 6

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Cheyna Williams was honored on TopDrawerSoccer’s Team of the Week, while Megan Campbell was recognized as a Primetime Performer by CollegeSoccer360. Both Seminoles played an integral role in leading the fifth-ranked Seminoles to a pair of ACC victories including a 1-0 shutout win over then second-ranked Virginia.

Williams finished the week with five points on two goals and an assist in two matches as she tallied 91 minutes on the pitch. She opened the week with a pair of goals against the Cardinals as it marked the first multi-goal game of her FSU career. Williams netted two goals in the first three minutes of the second half to break the game open after the Seminoles went into the locker room with a 1-0 lead.

On Sunday against previously unbeaten and untied Virginia, Williams assisted on the only goal of the game finding Dagny Brynjarsdottir in the ninth minute for the eventual game-winner. The win was FSU’s third straight over UVa at home while the shutout extended the Cavaliers scoreless streak in Tallahassee to 398:34.

Campbell scored the game’s first goal against Louisville, the eventual game-winner in the 17th minute, as her long strike from 20 yards found the lower right corner of the net to give Florida State an early 1-0 advantage.

Against Virginia, Campbell helped limit UVa to 4 shots on goal including none by 2013 Hermann Trophy recipient Morgan Brian. She also proved to be a regular threat with her trademark long throw-ins.

UVa had scored a goal in 44 consecutive games before Sunday’s match, a streak dating back to a 1-0 overtime loss to the Seminoles in Tallahassee in 2012. Virginia, who entered the match as the lone undefeated and untied team in the nation, also saw its school-record 17-match, ACC regular season win streak come to an end. UVa’s last conference loss in the regular season came at the hands of the Seminoles back in 2012.

Williams, Campbell and the Seminoles are back in action this weekend as they head south to face Miami on Saturday, October 4 at 7 p.m. Stay tuned to all season long for continued coverage of the Florida State Soccer team.
