TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State defensive tackle Marvin Wilson has been named a first-team preseason All-American by Walter Camp, it was announced Thursday.
Wilson, who was named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List last week, enters his senior season as the best interior defensive lineman in college football. He was an All-American, Bednarik Award semifinalist and first-team All-ACC performer last season despite a season-ending injury in the ninth game of the year. In his nine games, Wilson recorded 44 tackles, including 8.5 for loss with a team-high 5.0 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, four pass breakups and two quarterback hurries. The Houston native was one of only four defensive tackles in the nation, and the only one from the ACC, with multiple 3.0 tackle-for-loss games in 2019.
In his career, Wilson has started 14 of his 33 games played and compiled 93 tackles, 13.5 for loss with 8.5 sacks, seven quarterback hurries, six pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. His sacks and tackles for loss totals are tops among current Seminoles.
Walter Camp, a former athlete and coach at Yale, first named an All-America team in 1889. The 131st Walter Camp All-America team will be voted on by head coaches and sports information directors in late November. The Walter Camp Football Foundation was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team. The Foundation is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA).
