TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Eight Noles were recognized by the ACC for their achievements on and off the track this past indoor season on Wednesday morning. Trey Cunningham was named the ACC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the third straight year. Cunningham is the first indoor track and field athlete in ACC history to win the award in three straight seasons. Cunningham was also one of eight athletes named to the Academic All-ACC team. Cunningham was joined by Jacore Irving, Ahmed Muhumed, Riley Ott, Adriaan Wildschutt, Lauren Ryan, Ruby Stauber and Alonie Sutton.

“The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year is about as big as it gets. I’m so proud of Trey and his commitment to excellence in every aspect of his life,” Head Coach Bob Braman said.

In arguably the greatest indoor season every by a collegiate hurdler, Cunningham pursued his graduate degree in Sport Management after achieving his undergraduate degree in public relations. Cunningham maintained a 3.5 GPA during the fall semester. Cunningham has racked up many awards since the conclusion of his indoor season. Cunningham was named the ACC Men’s Track Performer of the Year, the USTFCCCA Men’s South Region Athlete of the Year and the Men’s MVP at FSU’s Golden Nole event.

“Being named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year is a big honor. The ACC has strong academic standards, and to be chosen out of all the candidates, it says a lot. Winning for the third time is a blessing, and I’m thankful to be considered again,” Cunningham said.

Muhumed, Ott and Wildschutt are all making their first appearance for the Academic All-ACC team during the indoor season. All three were named to the team during the outdoor season in 2021. Muhumed and Wildschutt had fantastic seasons for the Noles, each qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 5000m run. Wildschutt finished fourth in the race while Muhumed finished 15th.

On the women’s side, Ryan, Stauber and Sutton are each making their first appearance on the ACC All-Academic team. Ryan finished fourth at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 3000m run. Both Stauber and Sutton had solid performances at the ACC Championships. Stauber finished second in the 800m run and broke the school record in the event. Sutton finished fifth in both the long jump and the triple jump.

“I’m really proud to have so many student athletes attain this high of honor. It is rare to have eight nominees. This speaks to the commitment of our athletes and the incredible support system we have in place for them,” Braman said.
