TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Volleyball has announced its spring schedule for the 2021 season, which includes eight confirmed home matches at Tully Gym beginning with a doubleheader vs. Clemson on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Overall, the Seminoles carry a 15-match schedule comprised mostly of Atlantic Coast Conference opponents. FSU is also still determining a finalized date and time for matches against Wake Forest.

“The team is very excited about the opportunity to compete this spring,” FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. “Between COVID-19 protocols and injuries last fall, we never got to practice or compete at full strength. As NCAA rules currently stand for this one year, we will not be able to play our incoming new spring players.

“Our quality of talent is very good, but the challenge will be keeping them out of quarantine and healthy. We are hoping to still add a couple of matches in February to give the players an opportunity for match experience. Training is important, but the players love to play and we believe we can be very competitive this spring.”

FSU played four matches in the fall, highlighted by a 3-1 win at No. 11 Miami on Oct. 15.

The Seminoles’ other home matches in the spring include vs. Troy (Feb. 26), Louisiana (Feb. 27), Notre Dame (March 12), Virginia Tech (March 14), Syracuse (April 1) and NC State (April 3).

FSU will have neutral-site matchups vs. Duke (March 6 in Boston College), Louisville (March 20 in Virginia) and against North Carolina (March 27 in Pittsburgh). True road matches occur at Boston College (March 7), at Virginia (March 19) and at Pittsburgh (March 26).

The ACC has set up the 2021 schedule for conference play where five host sites will host ACC play each weekend. Each site will host three teams, and each team plays twice on the weekend. FSU is the host site the weekend of March 12-14 (Notre Dame and Virginia Tech) as well as April 1-3 (Syracuse and NC State).

On FSU’s weekends of hosting, Virginia Tech and Notre Dame will play at Tully Gym on March 13, and NC State and Syracuse will play on April 2.

Regular-season play will determine the ACC volleyball champion, and teams must play at least 75 percent of the average number of conference matches completed by ACC teams to qualify as the 2020-21 ACC volleyball champion and NCAA automatic qualifier.

From the fall season, the Seminoles return senior pre-season All-ACC members Taryn Knuth and Jasmyn Martin. Sophomore middle blocker Emma Clothier and redshirt sophomore outside hitter Morgan Chacon also return, giving FSU a strong nucleus of hitters.
