He led the Seminoles with a .371 batting average, 19 home runs and 80 RBIs for the year. In 1994, he was a member of Team USA where he led the team of all-stars with 10 home runs and 41 RBI's and was awarded the Fighting Spirit Award by the All-Japan University Baseball League.
He ranks 10th in the Florida State record book for batting average and slugging percentage and was named to the CWS All-Decade Team of the 1990s.
In 1995, the left-handed first baseman signed with the Minnesota Twins. He made his major league debut in 1998. But one of Doug's brightest moments came when he was selected to play for the USA in the Sydney Olympics and eventually brought home a gold medal.
