No. 15 Seminoles Welcome Rice to The Plex Sunday

TALLAHASSEE – The No. 15 Florida State soccer team returns home to host Rice in its final non-conference game on Sunday, September 6, at 12 p.m. ET at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
Tickets are available at Seminoles.com/Tickets or by calling the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at 850-644-1830. New in 2026, tickets will be required for all fans to every regular-season home game. Admission will continue to be free for all FSU students with their FSUID.
The Sunday matinee is the annual Kids Club Game.

Beginning a two-game homestand that ends with the ACC opener on Thursday, the Seminoles are 4-1-0 on the season, 1-0-0 at home and 3-1-0 on the road. Florida State concludes a two-game week after a 2-1 comeback win at No. 25 Georgia on September 3. FSU is 33-1-4 in regular-season non-conference games since the middle of the 2019 non-conference slate.
Florida State has scored 12 goals on eight assists with 72 shots, 41 on frame and has allowed four goals on 46 shots for a 0.80 goals-against average and a .778 save percentage. FSU's goals have come from seven different players, four of them newcomers, and five players have at least one assist, all first-year Seminoles. That includes junior midfielder Sam Erbach who has a team-best three goals and eight points with a team-high-tying two assists. Senior forward Tanner Strickland has scored two goals with an assist for five points. Junior forward Wrianna Hudson shares the team lead of 13 shots with Erbach, and Hudson paces the squad with 10 shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Ockene has two shutouts with 10 saves and a 3-1-0 record.
NATIONALLY-RANKED SEMINOLES
Florida State is ranked No. 15 in the week three IWSOC DI Top 25 Coaches Poll, while Top Drawer Soccer has FSU No. 8. Beginning the year at No. 4, the Seminoles were in the top-10 in the preseason coaches' poll for the 20th time in the last 21 seasons.
SERIES HISTORY VS. RICE
Florida State is 2-0-0 all-time vs. Rice, with a 5-0 win in Houston in 2022 and a 3-0 home victory in 2024. Two years ago in Tallahassee, three freshmen scored for the top-ranked Seminoles, including Hudson and midfielder Lara Dantas, both in the final 30 minutes after the first goal came in the 30th minute. SCOUTING THE OWLS
Rice is 1-3-2 on the season, 0-2-1 at home and 1-1-1 on the road. The Owls are coming off a 4-3 loss at No. 17 Texas State on Thursday night, one week after a 3-1 home defeat to No. 3 Vanderbilt. Prior to the two top-20 matches, Rice was unbeaten in three consecutive games, a stretch that began with a 3-0 win at Navy. In Thursday's loss at Texas State, RU led 2-0 in the 22nd minute and 3-1 in the 65th before the Bobcats rallied with three unanswered in the final 29 minutes as Rice was shown two red cards.
LAST TIME OUT: COMEBACK TOP-25 WIN
Erbach scored two goals in the final seven-plus minutes as Florida State rallied to defeat No. 25 Georgia 2-1 on Thursday night in Athens. Facing their first ranked opponent of the season, the Seminoles trailed 1-0 in the 35th minute until Erbach scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute. A foul in the box sent Erbach to the penalty spot with 16 seconds remaining, and she converted for her first FSU brace and the top-25 road win.
Erbach's eighth multi-goal game of her three-year collegiate career comes as she posted a game-high four shots and was one of three Seminoles with two shots on goal. Ockene made three saves while the Bulldog keeper stopped six shots. UGA had 18 shots to FSU's 16, though the Seminoles held an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams had five corner kicks. Georgia had 13 fouls and three yellow cards and Florida State had six fouls and no cards.
Florida State improved to 4-2-1 all-time vs. Georgia, including 2-2-0 on the road. FSU is unbeaten against UGA in the last five games in the series. On a hot and rainy evening, the contest was delayed by approximately 40 minutes in the 23rd minute due to lightning in the area.
