TALLAHASSEE – The No. 15 Florida State soccer concluded non-conference play with a 1-1 draw against Rice on Sunday afternoon at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
On a hot and sun-soaked day, the Seminoles (4-1-1) scored the game's first goal in the 76th minute thanks to junior forward Wrianna Hudson, while the Owls (1-3-3) answered with the tying goal six minutes later. Sophomore goalkeeper made eight saves.
Hudson scored her second goal of the season, tied for second-most on the team, and the 26th goal of her three-year career. Junior midfielder Sam Erbach got the assist, as it was her corner kick that was headed in by Hudson. Erbach leads the team with three assists and nine points in her debut campaign in Tallahassee. The assist is the 24th of Erbach's three collegiate seasons.
Ockene's eight saves are the second-most in a game in her career, and she now has 18 stops on the season. RU's keeper was credited with two saves.
Hudson and Ebach each had two shots, and Hudson was one of three Seminoles with a shot on goal.
Rice held a 13-11 edge in shots and a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams had six corner kicks. FSU was called for 12 fouls with two yellow cards and the Owls had five fouls and one yellow card.
Florida State is 2-0-1 all-time vs. Rice and 1-0-1 at home. Hudson has a goal in both home contests in the series.
Sunday's game is the last regular-season non-conference matchup of the season for FSU and begins a two-game homestand.
Ockene made her first save in the ninth minute, a stop that set up a corner kick. On the corner, Rice appeared to take a 1-0 lead, but Florida State challenged the play. Upon replay review, the goal was disallowed and a foul was called on a Rice attacker.
FSU followed with a pair of shots in the next five minutes, both which went over the crossbar.
A nice cross in by freshman forward Sammy Kaczmar set up a Seminole corner kick, but the home side could not get a shot off in the 22nd minute.
Ockene made her second save in the 32nd minute before freshman forward Anniyah Gordon Rodney had a chance saved in the 40th minute.
One minute later, Ockene stopped her third shot of the first half to conclude the opening 45 minutes.
Shots were 6-5 for Rice and 3-1 in shots on goal for the visitors. The Owls also had a 4-2 advantage in corners in the opening half.
Ockene's first save of the second half was in the 52nd minute, and freshman forward Ryder Ajeto put a shot on target that was saved in the 56th minute by the Rice keeper well off her line.
Two more saves for Ockene came in the 61st minute and Erbach put a shot wide left in the 71st.
Hudson gave Florida State a 1-0 lead at 75:10. The header from just in front of the penalty spot was delivered in by Erbach off a corner kick.
Rice tied the game at 1-1 at 81:30, and Ockene followed with two more saves in the next 75 seconds.
Florida State appeared to quickly answer to regain the lead at 2-1 in the 83rd minute. However, a Rice challenge and video review resulted in the goal being disallowed to keep the 1-1 final.
The Owls had an 8-5 advantage in shots and a 5-1 lead in shots on goal in the second half. Corners were 4-2 for the Seminoles.
