Shamalene Wilson entered Florida State as a four-time All-Conference selection, MVP of the North-South All-Stars and Player of the Year for her prep team at Pasco Comprehensive High. The Dade City, Florida native wasted no time making her impact on Seminole softball and was named ACC Freshman of the Year in 1993.

The outfielder's steady pace continued throughout her career as a Lady Seminole. She was a three-time All-American, a three-time All-South Region selection and ACC Player of the Year. She left her name in the record book in 11 categories and helped lead the Tribe to three ACC Championships, four NCAA Regional berths and a trip to the College World Series while accumulating numerous All-ACC and Player of the Week honors.

Her efforts off the field were also recognized. In 1995, Shama received the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Award and in 1996 was the receipient of the Florida State ACC Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year along with Seminole quarterback Danny Kanell.

After graduating with a degree in criminal justice in 1997, Shamalene spent two seasons with a professional fastpitch team, the Georgia Pride. Her second year, Shama was named Defensive Player of the Year and selected to the All-Star team.

In 1998, Wilson returned to Dade City and married Poncho Broner. She works for her alma mater, Pasco High and she and Poncho have two children, Kiara and Kobe.
