Hubbart, from Windermere, Florida, allowed only two hits and no walks in Saturday’s 13-2 win over the Dukes. He struck out the side in the first, second, and fifth innings and threw only 75 pitches. Hubbart struck out eight of the first nine batters faced.
The left-hander’s 13 strikeouts are the most by a Seminole since Conor Grady also recorded 13 against Troy in 2021.
Hubbart is the No. 12-rated starting pitcher by D1Baseball and No. 31 on D1’s top draft-eligible players list for 2022. He was also named a second team Preseason All-American by Baseball America and a third team All-American by D1Baseball and Perfect Game.
Hubbart’s 13 strikeouts were the most in the ACC on Opening Weekend and the second-most in the country. Teammate Parker Messick was second in the league with 11 strikeouts on Opening Day against the Dukes and FSU struck out 47 James Madison batters in the three-game sweep.

Carson Montgomery will start on the mound for the Seminoles in his ninth career start after he made 11 appearances with eight starts during his freshman season.
The sophomore from Windermere, Florida, was rated the No. 41 D1Baseball Starting Pitcher during the preseason and is No. 15 on D1’s 2023 Draft Prospects list.
In 2021, Montgomery had excellent back-to-back midweek showings against in-state rivals Florida and UCF where he struck out nine in just 8.2 innings across both games.
FSU and Jacksonville will play three times this spring with future meetings on Tuesday, April 5 and Tuesday, May 10 both in Tallahassee.
