Jaelin Howell Goes Second Overall in NWSL Draft

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Program history was made on Saturday when midfielder Jaelin Howell was selected second overall in the 2022 NWSL Draft. Howell became the highest-drafted Seminole in the NWSL Draft, joining Tiffany McCarty who was drafted second overall in 2013. She was selected second overall by Racing Louisville FC.

Howell became the 22nd Seminole to be drafted in the NWSL draft. She joins McCarty (second overall), Casey Short (fifth overall), Kassey Kallman (fifth overall) and Carson Picket (fourth overall) as Florida State soccer players to be drafted in the top-5.

Jaelin leaves Florida State as one of the most decorated Seminoles of all time. She is a two-time national champion and the winner of the 2020 MAC Hermann award. She played in 90 games during her four seasons in Tallahassee, starting 86 of them. She totaled 42 points in her career off of 14 goals and 14 assists. Howell has also been a member of the USWNT earning two caps

Howell has also been named a first-team All-American the last two seasons. She was named to the All-ACC First Team the last three seasons (2019-21) and to the Second Team her freshman year. The last two seasons she was named the ACC’s Midfielder of the Year, becoming the first player in conference history to earn that honor twice. Howell was named a finalist for the MAC Hermann award for the 2021 season.
