Women’s Tennis Knocks Off Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. – The 19th-ranked Florida State Lady Seminoles
concluded their four-match road swing by defeating the 44th-ranked Auburn
Tigers 6-3 on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Seminoles (3-2) won four of six
singles matches and two of three doubles matches at the Luther Young Tennis
Center to hand Auburn (2-1) its first loss of the season.
In singles, FSU junior Nanette Duxin pulled out the closest match
of the afternoon, defeating Auburn’s Simone Jardim in three sets at No. 2
singles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. FSU’s Kia Asberg, Alida Gallovits and Ali Weber
all won singles matches for Florida State. Asberg won her second match in
a row after coming away with the only win in FSU’s 5-1 loss earlier in the
week at Florida. Asberg’s record on the year improves to 12-5 and 3-2 in
dual match play. Gallovits won her team-leading 12th match of the year,
improving to 12-5. Weber evened her overall record to 9-9 and ended a
three-match skid with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
In doubles, the FSU duo of Gallovits and Duxin played their first
match of the season at No. 1 and won 8-6 over Auburn’s Andrea Piski and
Katia Illarionova. The team of Asberg and sophomore Marina Raic won their
second match in a row together, defeating Auburn’s Carolina Maurer and
Caroline Thompson in a 9-8(7-4) tiebreaker.
Florida State will return home for a nine-match homestand beginning
on Friday against Jacksonville University. The match is scheduled to get
underway Friday at 3:00 p.m. at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
