FSU Women’s Tennis defeats No. 49 Tulane

TALLAHASSEE, FL.– The Florida State women’s tennis team traveled to New Orleans, LA., for their fifth match of the spring season. The No. 30 ranked Seminoles defeated No. 49 Tulane 4-3.


In singles competition the Lady `Noles fared well winning 3 of the six matches, while taking two of the doubles matches. Christina Denny and Gallvoits bounced back from losses to Florida to win both of their singles matches. Both Denny and Gallovits had to fight today each winning their matches in the third set. Denny defeated Joyce Bergman 6-4, 2-6, 6-0, while Gallovits won the match against Anna Monhartova, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Nanette Duxin won her second match of the season defeating Tulane’s Anneli Axsater in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.


In doubles play the women won two of the three matches, giving them the doubles point. Gallovits and Duxin teamed together to defeat Julie Morris and Bergman 8-4. Samantha Schoeffel made her second appearance for the Lady `Noles in doubles play when she teamed with Marina Raic. The tandem defeated Maiko Cook and Monhartova 8-3.


The Seminoles are now traveling to Baton Rouge, La. where they will hope to continue play with a winning streak. The women are set to face LSU at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium. Dual Match play will begin at 2:00 p.m.


“It’s going to be another tough match for us,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “They (Florida State) finished last season as the 22nd-ranked team in the nation.”
