TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — As a consistent threat at the plate during a sweep on the road at Syracuse, with power to all areas of the field, junior Anna Shelnutt was named the ACC Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.
It is the first ACC weekly accolade in Shelnutt’s career and she becomes the sixth active player on the Seminoles to earn recognition as the conference’s best player/pitcher, joining Meghan King (10), Carsyn Gordon (3), Sydney Sherrill (2), Cali Harrod (1) and Zoe Casas (1).
Shelnutt carried the Seminole offense with an .800 batting average (8-for-10) with two doubles, three home runs, eight RBI and four runs scored, along with a 1.900 slugging percentage. She tallied multiple hits and at least one extra-base hit in all three games of the weekend, setting a career high with four hits on May 5 as she hit a pair of home runs, a double and drove in five RBI.
The junior catcher has made a name for herself in the months of May and June, as in those months during her three-year career, Shelnutt has compiled a batting average of .337 (28-for-83) with five doubles, a triple, 12 home runs, 34 RBI, 11 walks and 17 runs scored.
Shelnutt and the Seminoles will compete as the No. 2 seed in the upcoming 2019 ACC Softball Championship on May 8-11. FSU’s first game will be on Thursday, May 9 at 5:00 p.m. against the winner of Wednesday’s contest between the No. 7-seed Georgia Tech and No. 10-seed Virginia.
Tickets are on sale now and the games on Wednesday-Friday will be broadcast on the Regional Sports Networks (RSN), while Saturday’s championship game will air nationally on ESPN. Links for tickets, the broadcasts and live stats will be available on the softball schedule page of Seminoles.com.
