No.16/22 Noles to Host Gardner-Webb on Senior Day

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No.16/22 Florida State swimming and diving teams will host Gardner-Webb on Saturday at the Morcom Aquatic Center at 11 a.m. The Seminoles will recognize 10 seniors prior to the meet.
“We’re looking forward to having a great day for our seniors,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “They have been through a lot, so it’s even more special that we get to celebrate them.”
The Meet
The meet will follow the 16-event format featuring 100s and 200s of each stroke in addition to the 50 free, 500 free, 1000 free, 200 IM and the 200 medley and free relays.
The divers will compete in an exhibition against Georgia Tech, since the Bulldogs only field swimming teams. Both 1-meter and 3-meter diving will run simultaneously to swimming.
No spectators will be permitted at the meet, however, live timing will be available.
The Series
This is the first meeting between the two teams.
The Seniors
Prior to the meet, 10 seniors will be recognized for their accomplishments throughout their careers.

Last Time Out
The 16th-ranked men’s team dominated RV LSU at home, 170.5-91.5, by winning 10 of the 14 events competed.
The men’s team set three Morcom Aquatics Center records in the win, as the team of freshman Mason Herbet, junior Izaak Bastian, sophomore Domen Demsar and sophomore Peter Varjasi started the meet off with a new record of 1:26.85 in the 200 medley relay. The Noles took down the mark of 1:27.30 set by Alabama on Jan. 12, 2018.
Varjasi also set a new record in the 50 free at 19.76 and freshman David Quirie set the new standard in the 1650 free at 15:29.19. Varjasi erased Chad Mylin’s 19.90 (Jan. 27, 2018) and Quirie took down Alabama’s Nico Tome-Hernandez’s mark of 15:38.90 (Jan. 12, 2020).
The No. 22 women tied the RV Tigers 131-131.
Junior Maddie McDonald led the Noles with two individual wins, taking the 100 back at 54.53 before touching at 1:58.09 for the win in the 200 back.
The Seminoles currently rank in the top 16 nationally in nine relays, and also have individuals in the top 30 in 14 events.
On the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs have only competed on Oct. 31, 2020. Both teams defeated Lenoir-Rhyne (M 163-97, W 181-87), while the women added another win over UNC-Asheville, 176-85.
Jonathan Frye was named the CCSA Swimmer of the Week after winning the 100 breast (59.21) and 200 breast (2:14.44).
