Basketball Selected To Play in NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (seminoles.com) — The Florida State men’s basketball has earned the No. 4 seed in the East Region and will play No. 13 seeded UNC Greensboro in its first game of the 2021 NCAA Tournament on Saturday, March 20.  The game time and location has yet to be announced.  Florida State is an at-large selectin from the ACC while UNC Greensboro is the champion of the Southern Conference.

The Seminoles’ selection to the 2021 NCAA Tournament marks the 18th time in school history and eighth time under head coach Leonard Hamilton the Seminoles will appear in the NCAA Tournament.   The Seminoles selection to the 2021 NCAA Tournament marks the school-record tying fourth consecutive season the Seminoles will play the event (2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021).

Florida State has now participated in the postseason in 15 of Hamilton’s 19 seasons at Florida State.  The Seminoles were primed to participate in 2020 NCAA Tournament before it was cancelled by the NCAA because of the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic.

Under Hamilton, the Seminoles have played in the NCAA Tournament in the 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2017 and 2018, 2019 and 2021 seasons.

Florida State enters the 2021 NCAA Tournament with a 16-6 record and an 11-4 mark in ACC play.  The Seminoles finished second in the ACC standings and as the runners-up in the ACC Tournament.

The 2021 Seminoles enter the NCAA Tournament with three wins over nationally ranked teams — No. 25 Florida (Dec. 12, 83-71), No. 20 Clemson (Jan. 23, 80-61) and No. 7 Virginia (Feb. 15, 80-61).  The Seminoles have three Quadrant 1 wins (home wins over teams ranked in the Top 30 of the NET, neutral site wins against teams ranked 5-100 and road wins over teams in the Top 75).

Florida State enters the NCAA Tournament with three players averaging in double figure scoring led by junior All-ACC Second-Team selection M.J. Walker who leads the Seminoles in both scoring (a career-high 13.0 ppg) and 3-poit shots made (44 / 2.0 3FGM/Game).  Also in double figure scoring are All-ACC Third-team selections RaiQuan Gray (12.0 ppg) and Scottie Barnes (11.0 ppg).  Barnes was also named as the ACC Sixth Man and the ACC Freshman of the Year in addition to earning All-ACC Third-Team honors.
