Softball Starts Week Two of the Season Against South Alabama

Tallahassee, Fla. – The No. 6 Seminole softball team (4-0) looks to add to their 4-0 start to the season this week as they play six games in five days. The Noles start at home when they host South Alabama (1-3) on Wednesday, February 16th at 2:00 PM.

Florida State then heads to the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational to take on Tennessee (Feb. 17 at 4 pm), Texas (Feb. 18 at 1 pm), Michigan (Feb. 19 at 1 pm), UCF (Feb. 20 at 12:30 pm), and UCLA (Feb. 20 at 7 pm).

The Seminoles and South Alabama have met 11 times, with the Noles leading the series 7-4. The teams last met in 2019 at home with a 4-1 Seminole win. The last time South Alabama beat FSU was 3-1 in 2018 during the first game of a doubleheader. The Seminoles responded to the loss with a run-rule win in the second game 14-1.

South Alabama started their season 1-3 with two losses against No. 14 LSU and a loss to Illinois. They earned their first win of the season against Central Arkansas, 7-4, at the Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, LA.

Wednesday’s game will be live on the ACC Network. Season tickets are sold out, but individual tickets can be bought here. Links for the broadcast and live stats will be available on the softball schedule page on seminoles.com.

Four of the five games of the St. Pete/Clearwater invitational will be watchable on TV, all five games can be streamed on the ESPN app. Thursday’s game against Tennessee and Friday’s game against Texas are both on ESPNU. Saturday’s game against Michigan is on the ACC Network and Sunday’s game against UCLA is on ESPN2. Sunday’s game against UCF will be streamed on ESPN+.

JoAnne Graf Classic Success

The Seminoles ended opening weekend with an undefeated performance, outscoring their opponents 35-2 at the JoAnne Graf Classic in Tallahassee. On Friday, February 11, Florida State beat Mercer 12-0 in five innings with home runs from Kaley Mudge, Mack Leonard, and Kalei Harding. The Noles also beat Kennesaw State 4-0 on the opening day of the season. Kathryn Sandercock led a Seminole defense that did not allow a run as she pitched a complete seven innings with eight strikeouts.

Florida State defeated Loyola, 8-2 on the second day of the JoAnne Graf Classic. LUC was the only team to score against Florida State with two runs scored in the top of the first inning. The Seminoles responded with eight unanswered runs led by three home runs. Freshman Brooke Blankenship and Michaela Edenfield both hit their first career home runs and Jahni Kerr hit her first since tearing her ACL at the beginning of last season. The Seminoles closed the weekend with another run-rule win, this time against Kennesaw State, 11-0. The Noles scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off five hits.
