Danley's Career Day Lifts No. 9 Softball to Regional Final

5/16/2026 7:42:00 PM | Softball

TALLAHASSEE - The No. 9 Florida State softball team defeated Stetson by a final score of 11-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Seminole Softball Complex. The Seminoles (51-9) advance to the regional final with the victory while the Hatters' (37-21) postseason run comes to an end.

Florida State extends its all-time record over Stetson to 18-2 with a 12-1 mark in Tallahassee after falling in the regional opener yesterday.

The Garnet and Gold offense showed no signs of slowing down after the previous win over Jacksonville State. Florida State managed 11 runs on 16 hits and drew two walks. Nine Seminoles recorded a hit in the win.

Junior Ashtyn Danley put together one of the best games of her college career thus far, shining as a two-way player against the Hatters. Danley bested her career high at the plate with four hits, three of which were home runs. It is her first multi-home run game of her career, and she is the first Nole to hit three home runs in a single game since Sydney Sherrill did so on May 7, 2022 against NC State. She also plated a career-best four runs and tied her career-high with five RBI.

Junior Jaysoni Beachum hit a major milestone in her college career after hammering her first career grand slam in the second inning, breaking open the game for the Seminoles. Other notable performances included junior Isa Torres who went 3-for-5 at the plate with a double; Anna Hinde, who went 2-for-2 with a run driven in; and senior Madi Frey, who singled twice and pulled off two thrilling catches in foul territory while at catcher.

Danley (13-1) and freshman pitcher Bella Dimitrijevic held down the circle for Florida State, contributing three and four innings respectively to hold Stetson to three runs on six hits while striking out four.

The momentum from the win over Jacksonville State rolled over into the second game as the Seminoles struck in the top of the first. Torres doubled into left field and moved to third as Danley ripped a single to the pitcher. An RBI single into shallow left from Hinde pushed Torres home to open the scoring, and Danley plated the second run after beating the throw home on a fielder's choice by Ruggiero.

The Seminole bats erupted in the second inning with six consecutive hits. Griggs, Sturgis and Torres each singled to load the basepath, setting the table for Beachum to crush the first grand slam of her career over right field. Two pitches later, Danley broke into double-digit home runs with a solo shot over right field to extend the lead to 7-0.

The Hatters responded in the bottom of the third with two runs, and added another on in the bottom of the fourth. Florida State punched back in the top of the fifth after Danley hammered her second home run over center, scoring junior Angelee Bueno to cushion the lead at 9-3. Two innings later, Danley would pound her third home run of the game narrowly over left field, scoring Bueno and putting an exclamation mark on the win.

Florida State will meet unbeaten UCF in the regional final tomorrow at noon, followed by a game at 2:30 p.m. if necessary.  The full schedule for the Tallahassee Regional, as well as team information, can be found here.
