TALLAHASSEE, Florida –
Florida State Volleyballs gets its 2023 season underway this weekend when it heads to Athens, Ga., to participate in the Classic City Clash Tournament held at the Ramsey Student Center on the campus of the University of Georgia.

First serve for Florida State's season is on Friday at 3 p.m. when it takes on Western Carolina. The Seminoles return on Saturday with a true road matchup at Georgia at 7 p.m. on SEC Network+. Sunday's match comes against Connecticut and is set for 11 a.m. on travel day.

Only FSU's Saturday match at Georgia will be live streamed. Live stats will be available for all three matches.

"We are excited to get started for real," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "It's been great to get back to training and we've made progress, but we know that the fun part is competing.  I like this team a lot but passing will again be the key to our success."

One of the many strengths for the Seminoles comes in the middle, with returning All-ACC middle blocker Khori Louis pairing with top-notch transfer Kiari Robey, who led the Oregon Ducks in blocks last year en route to the NCAA Elite Eight.

Coach Poole begins his 16th season at Florida State, having taken the Seminoles to the NCAA Tournament in 13 of his first 15 seasons. He is closing in on becoming just the eighth Division I head coach to reach 900 career wins, entering the 2023 season with 895.

FSU returns 67.2 percent of its kill total from last year, including its top two kill leaders in junior outside hitter Audrey Koenig and Louis – both whom are preseason All-ACC selections.

The Seminoles have three Gatorade Players of the Year in sophomore outside hitter Audrey Rothman (Alabama), freshman setter Kenna Phelan (Arkansas) and freshman outside hitter Kyleene Filimaua (Washington), all whom are expected to contribute to a deep squad this season.

FSU and Western Carolina will meet for just the third time in series history on Friday, with the Seminoles owning a 2-0 edge. FSU and Georgia square off for the 27th time, as FSU holds a 16-10 lead in the series. The two teams met two years ago at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, where FSU won 3-2 on a match-deciding kill by current senior right-side hitter Sydney Conley.

FSU and UConn play for the first time ever on Sunday.
