Seminoles Win 67-58 At Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Primo Spears led Florida State with 13 points and the Seminoles earned their first ACC road win of the year against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame at the Joyce Center, 67-58. Spears was one of four players to score in double figures for the Seminoles with Jalen Warley, Jamir Watkins, and Darin Green Jr. Florida State is now 4-1 in ACC play.
 
Amongst the major snowfall in South Bend was a high-energy basketball game from the beginning with the Seminoles putting on the full-court pressure. In the first half, Florida State earned a nine-point run over a four minute span, were perfect from the free throw line, and had 10 offensive rebounds.
 
Spears led the Seminoles with five field goals made and was a perfect two of two from the free throw line.  His most important points of the games came as the clock ticked towards zero.    
 
Watkins had a stat-building game as he totaled 12 points, four rebounds, four steals, and one assist.  He was Florida State's second-leading scorer after he was limited in the first half with two early fouls.
 
The second half was filled with the classic Florida State defense challenging Notre Dame, filling the lanes, and building a cushion against the Fighting Irish. The Seminoles finished the game with nine steals (six of them in the second half) and seven blocks. In the second half, the Seminoles were able to create the biggest lead of the game with 14 points.
 
Florida State Head Coach Leonard Hamilton rotated 12 players into the game, allowing his players to stay ready and play with high energy.
 
Green Jr. had an energetic game as he scored 10 points and tied his season high with five rebounds -- all coming defensively. He also earned one steal.
 
Warley was perfect from the line (two of two) and scored 10 points, along with tying his career-high with two blocks as Florida State held Notre Dame to 23 made field goals and a .418 field goal shooting percentage.
 
Notre Dame was led by Markus Burton who scored 20 of the Irish's total of 58 points.
 
Florida State will continue on the road and head to Coral Gables to face Miami on Wednesday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m.
