TALLAHASSEE -- Malique Ewin (21 points and 15 rebounds) and Taylor Bol Bowen (13 points and 13 rebounds) earned double-doubles and Florida State defeated Winthrop 82-64 at the Donald L. Tucker Center. The Seminoles opened up a close game late in the first half as they outscored the Eagles 14-5 over the final 4:17 of the first half, and took a 25-point second half lead in earning the victory at home.

Florida State improved to a 9-3 while Winthrop, from the Big South Conference, dropped to 9-4. The Seminoles now hold a 4-0 all-time record against Winthrop, with all games played at home during the 2016-17, 2018-19, 2023-24, and 2024-25 seasons.

The double-doubles by Ewin and Bol Bowen marked the first time since January 21, 2021 that two Seminoles recorded double-doubles in the same game. RaiQuan Gray (10 points and 11 rebounds) and Malik Osborne (11 points and 10 rebounds) earned double-doubles in an 81-59 win over Miami at the Tucker Center.

Multiple double-double in the same game have come 12 times under head coach Leonard Hamilton.

Jamir Watkins led four Seminoles in double-figure scoring with 23 points. Ewin (21 points), Chandler Jackson (14 points) and Bol Bowen (13 points) all contributed to Florida State's eighth victory in their last nine home games dating to February 20, 2024.

Watkins led the Seminoles with 23 points, three 3-point shots made, and eight of eight made shots from the free throw line. He has made 27 of 31 free throws shots in his last two games. He ranks third in the nation with 88 free throws made in the first 12 games of the season.

Ewin's 21 points and 15 rebounds marked his second career double-double. He started the game well as he totaled 13 points and nine rebounds in the first. His 21 points ranks as his second-highest point total of his career following his 23-point performance against NC State on December 7. His 15-rebound performance also ranks as the second best of his career just behind his 17-rebound performance at LSU on December 3.

As the Seminoles' second-leading scorer, Ewin was 10 of 15 from the field and pulled down 15 rebounds. His rebounds were distributed equally on both sides of the court with seven coming on the offensive end and eight on the defensive end.

Watkins and Ewin have now both scored in double figures in nine consecutive games.

Bol Bowen enjoyed the best game of his career as he scored 13 points and pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds. He did much of his scoring damage inside the paint as shot six for nine from the field. He also blocked a team leading two shots.

After a low scoring start to the game which saw the game tied a 10-10 at the 14:16 mark, the Seminoles began to create separation as they made 11 of their last 16 shots and outscored Winthrop by a 17-12 margin. Florida State led by a 45-27 score at the half.

Florida State limited Winthrop to a .294 field goal shooting percentage and a .250 3-point field goal shooting mark. The Seminoles totaled eight steals, eight blocked shots, and outrebounded the Eagles by a 49-32 margin. The Seminoles doubled the Eagles rebounding effort by a 26-13 margin in the first half.

Bryce Baker led Winthrop with 18 points. He was followed by Nick Johnson with 17 points.

The Seminoles continue ACC play against Louisville on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 2 p.m. at the Tucker Center.
