Louisville's 3-Point Barrage Downs Seminoles, 90-76

TALLAHASSEE – Reyne Smith made six of Louisville's 15 3-point shots and scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Cardinals to a 90-76 win over Florida State at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Smith led five Cardinals who made at least one 3-point shot and four who scored in double figures to lead the Cardinals to the ACC road win.

Florida State is now 9-4 and 0-2 in the ACC while Louisville moves to 7-5 and 1-1 in ACC play.

Jamir Watkins was the standout player for the Seminoles as he scored 25 points with three rebounds and three steals. He made a team-leading four 3-points in scoring over 20 points for the fourth consecutive game. Junior Malique Ewin continued his consistent play, scoring 17 points and three rebounds.

Both Watkins and Ewin have now scored in double figures in 10 consecutive games.

"I have a lot of respect for Coach Hamilton and Florida State," said Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey. "I've played against him several times, two times when I was at Winthrop. And they beat the doors off of us in the eight years I was at Wake Forest back in the day. I played against him for so long. The longest tenured coach in the ACC, he's an icon in coaching and so respected."

Chandler Jackson led the Seminoles with four assists, while Taylor Bol Bowen added defensive energy with two steals. Rebounding was spread across the lineup, with Watkins, Jackson, Bol Bowen, Jerry Deng, and Ewin each grabbing three rebounds.

Bol Bowen also delivered an efficient performance at the free-throw line, going two-for-two and finishing with eight points.

Daquan Davis got the Seminoles off to a strong start with a three-pointer at the 19:06 mark of the first half but Louisville's early lead and sharp shooting forced Florida State to play catch-up throughout the game.

"I looked at the court, and we had three freshmen out there on the floor," said Seminole head coach Leonard Hamilton. "But when you think of the kind of team we are this year, we definitely need our rotation players to make major contributions. Sometimes that's not fair for them when you take under consideration the development process.

"They had their night, and you've got to give them credit," said Hamilton. "They were locked in mentally and emotionally, and I thought that they played to their strengths a lot better than we did. There lies a loss in a game that was very, very important to us."

Looking ahead, the Seminoles will take a brief break before continuing their ACC schedule. Their next match-up is at home and it's the first match-up of the new year against Syracuse on January 4th, 2025, at 6:00 PM in the Donald Tucker Civic Center.
