Watkins Scores 26; Seminoles Fall At Virginia Tech 83-75

BLACKSBURG, Va.- Hunter Cattoor led four Hokies in double-figures with 20 points and Virginia Tech earned an 83-75 win over Florida State at Cassell Coliseum. Lynn Kidd totaled a double-double of 12 points and a game high 15 rebounds as the Hokies outscored the Seminoles by eight points in the second half after the teams went into the locker room tied at halftime.

Cattoor scored nine second half points and Kidd totaled 10 second half points as the Hokies evened the regular season series at one game each. The Seminoles defeated Virginia Tech by a 77-74 margin in Tallahassee on January 6.

Jamir Watkins scored a near career-high 26 points to lead two Seminoles in double figures  Darin Green Jr. scored 14 points on three made 3-point field goals for Florida State.

Watkins led 11 Seminoles in the scoring column against the Hokies as each player who earned playing time for the Seminoles scored at least two points.

Watkins had a stat building night as he led Florida State in with points (26), rebounds (six), assists (four), and blocked shots (three). He led with 26 points and tied his career high of three blocks. Watkins was nine of 11 from the free throw line as he came within one point of tying his career-high of 27.

In the first half, Watkins led the Seminoles in scoring as he was perfect from inside the paint (three of three) and from outside the arc (one of one). He added two blocked shots, two assists, two rebounds, and one steal in the first 20 minutes.

He helped the Seminoles earn a quick four point lead with his play early in the game.

Green Jr. was the second leading scorer for the Seminoles with 14 points including a perfect three of three from the free throw line. He also had a touch of magic from distance as he scored nine of his 14 points from the 3-point line. He also contributed two rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

The second half was all about the match-up at the free throw line with the Seminoles making 12 of 18 shots and the Hokies making 15 of 19 from the line.

Virginia Tech was led by Cattoor 20 points. He was followed by Sean Pedulla with 19 points. Tyler Nickel also scored in double-figures with 15 points.

Next up is a battle against the seventh-ranked Duke Blue Devils in the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee at 2 pm on Saturday, February 17.
