Senior lefty Gray Albright posted a 4-under 68 in Monday's opening round of the Watersound Invitational held at Shark's Tooth Golf Club near Panama City Beach, Fla.
The Ocala, Fla., native is tied for third amongst an elite field, and is the highest-ranked individual golfer in the tournament. Albright is playing unattached to Florida State's counting team scores, as the Seminoles are tied for eighth after shooting even par on the day.
Albright totaled five birdies and just one bogey in his first round of play, marking his eighth career round in the 60s. His eight rounds have occurred in his last 16 rounds played dating back to last year's eye-opening win at the Seminole Intercollegiate.
Three Seminoles are tied for 15th with identical 1-under rounds in Jack Bigham, Michael Mays and Cole Anderson. Bigham and Anderson are counting team scores while Mays is also playing as an individual.
Vanderbilt leads the tournament at 10-under, followed by a Top 5 of Clemson (-5), Mississippi State (-5), Notre Dame (-4) and Virginia (-2). Mississippi State's Hunter Logan and Alabama's Thomas Ponder are tied atop the player leaderboard at 6-under each.
Florida State has eight competing golfers, which also include Tyler Weaver (Even), Luke Clanton (+2), James Tureskis (+2) and Frederik Kjettrup (+4).
FSU begins play on Tuesday in the second round of the Watersound Invitational beginning at 10:10 a.m. ET/9:10 a.m. CT. Pairings and results can be found on Golfstat.
