WATERSOUND, Florida – Senior Gray Albright recorded his second career tournament win with a victory at the Watersound Invitational on Wednesday afternoon at Shark's Tooth Golf Club in Watersound, Fla. The lefty from Ocala, Fla., shot a 10-under (68-70-68) to earn the win by one stroke against a strong field.
The Seminoles had a good final round, shooting 11-under for the day and tying for second in the tournament with Georgia Tech at 20-under. Vanderbilt took home the Watersound Invitational team title at 29-under.
For Albright, it was another crowning achievement after holding off two of collegiate golf's best in Gordon Sargent (-9) of Vanderbilt and Christo Lamprecht (-9) of Georgia Tech. It marks his first victory since winning the 2023 Seminole Intercollegiate at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
It came down to Albright's steady play on the back nine, where he recorded a birdie on the par-5 13th hole while adding eight pars. He only made one mistake in his final round with a bogey on the par-3 fifth hole. After he recorded a par on the 18th hole, he was the clubhouse leader at 10-under and had to wait out a late surge from Sargent before earning the win.
Albright took advantage of the par 3 and par 4 holes all week, tying for third among the field with a 1-under score on par 3s and finishing second in par 4 scoring at 6-under. Only three of his 54 holes played at Shark's Tooth Golf Club were over par.
Redshirt senior Cole Anderson had another good day, shoot 69 and tying for fifth overall at 7-under (71-69-69). Sophomore Luke Clanton came on late as well and earned another Top 10 finish, tying for seventh at 6-under (74-68-68).
Michael Mays and Jack Bigham each finished at 3-under and tied for 18th overall. Tyler Weaver tied for 22nd at 1-under (72-72-71).
The Seminoles prepare for the Cabo Collegiate held on March 3-5 at Twin Dolphin Golf Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
