No. 14 Florida State Returns Home for Two Matches

2/21/2024 10:44:00 AM | Men's Tennis

TALLAHASSEE - The No. 14 Florida State men's tennis team returns to action this weekend with two matches against Georgia State and South Alabama at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.

The Seminoles will face Georgia State on Friday at 6:30 p.m. before their match with South Alabama on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. FSU last played the two sides in 2022 and have only dropped one match to either team in the past decade.

After starting the season 5-2, Florida State hosted Oklahoma for its first match of the season at the Speicher Center and handled the Sooners with a 5-2 victory. The Seminoles then traveled up to Weymouth, Massachusetts, to take on Holy Cross and Boston College. The match with Holy Cross was canceled due to a winter storm but the match with Boston College was a 7-0 sweep as Florida State remains undefeated against the Eagles in series history.

Loris Pourroy was positioned at Court 1 for the first time in singles this season against Boston College and left quite the impression. He swept his opponent without dropping a single game in the two sets, 6-0, 6-0. In doubles, Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif defeated the nation's No. 15 pairing in a 6-4 set for their fourth top-25 win of the season.

In addition, the newest ITA rankings were released Tuesday. Florida State soared from No. 22 to No. 14, the team's highest ranking since February 1, 2023. In singles, Cornut-Chauvinc checked in at No. 13 while Jamie Connel landed at No. 125. In doubles, the French duo of Cornut-Chauvinc and Dous-Karpenschif climbed up to No. 14 for their highest ranking as a pair.

Live video and stats  from both matches will be available on Seminoles.com
