Softball Falls in Tight Battle Against Alabama

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The No. 18 Florida State softball team (17-6) fell to the No. 15 Alabama Crimson Tide (21-3), 4-1, in their Wednesday night battle on JoAnne Graf Field.

The Crimson Tide opened up the game by scoring two runs in the first inning from a solo home run and an RBI single, making the score 2-0. At the top of the third, Alabama had bases loaded with no outs, but the Seminoles were able to prevent them from any scores by forcing three straight pop-up outs.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Seminoles made it onto the scoreboard. Kalei Harding hit a single up the middle, and Michaela Edenfield then forced a walk advancing Harding to second. An Isa Torres ground out resulted in Harding and Edenfield advancing to second and third base, respectively. Harding was able to slide home on a wild pitch to cut the lead to one.

At the top of the fifth, Isa Torres made some impressive defensive plays at shortstop to create another scoreless inning.

Alabama added two runs on a home run in the top of the sixth inning.

At the bottom of the 7th inning, the Noles managed to get a runner on first but ultimately were not able to pull off the comeback.

Allison Royalty pitched 2.0 innings before Makenna Reid entered the game and threw for 3.2 innings, while Ashtyn Danley finished the game throwing the last 1.1 innings.

Florida State will face #4 Duke on Friday with the first pitch set for 6 p.m. and available to stream on ACC Network Extra.
