Watkins Scores 15, Seminoles Fall To Yellow Jackets

3/2/2024 3:22:00 PM | Men's Basketball

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Georgia Tech's Kyle Sturdivant scored 20 points and three Yellow Jackets earned in double figure rebounds as Georgia Tech gained an 85-76 victory over Florida State at McCamish Pavilion. Also in double figure scoring for Georgia Tech were Baye Ndongo and Naithan George, who both scored 15 points each.

Jamir Watkins led four Seminoles in double figures with 15 points. It marked the 15th consecutive game the junior win has scored in double-figures. Watkins was joined in double-figure scoring by Cam Corhen (14 points), Primo Spears (13 points) and Baba Miller (13 points). Watkins led the Seminoles with seven rebounds.

Watkins made four field goals and was a nearly perfect six of seven from the free throw line.  He finished as the team-leader in rebounds (along with Corhen) with seven rebounds while totaling three assists and one blocked shot.  Watkins led the team in steals matching his career-high of four.

Miller scored in double-figures with five made field goals and two of three made free throws.  He added four rebounds, a team-high two blocked shots, one assist and steal in 28 minutes of play.

Miller had shining moments showing his full strength and capabilities for the Seminoles scoring 13 points and leading the team with two blocks. The spark he brings on the court is one that cannot be overlooked, with his height being a strong factor helping turn moments from defense into offense.

The Seminoles and the Yellow Jackets traded punches in the first half.  Corhen was the heartbeat on the offensive side, with six of his 10 first half points in the first seven minutes of the game. Darin Green Jr. scored six of his nine points for the game in a span of 90 seconds with consecutive made 3-point field goals.

Second chance points were a major factor in the game as the Yellow Jackets earned 21 offensive rebounds and a 21-11 scoring edge on second chance points.

Spears was an offensive force for the Seminoles with 13 points and a game-high tying four assists.  He also added two steals against the Yellow Jackets.

Defensively, Florida State played a solid game on the road in ACC play.  The Seminoles totaled nine steals and four blocked shots, while forcing 16 Yellow Jacket turnovers.  Florida State outscored Georgia Tech, 11-9, in the points off turnovers category, and totaled 13 fast break points to Georgia Tech's 10.

The Seminoles and the Yellow Jackets split the two-game regular season series with each team winning on their home court.

Florida State closes out the road portion of its ACC schedule on Tuesday, March 5 as it travels to take on Pittsburgh at the Peterson Events Center at 9:00 p.m.  The game will be televised on ESPN2.
