Softball's Comeback Falls Just Short Against No, 9 Florida

Florida got on the board early scoring one run via a single to left field, and a Seminole error brought in another run, putting the Gators up 2-0. The Seminoles got the bottom of the first inning started with a Kaley Mudge leadoff triple. The Gators' lead quickly disappeared after a Jaysoni Beachum two-run home run to deep center field tied the game up 2-2.
In the top of the second inning, the Gators took advantage of another Seminole error scoring a run off of an infield single. Still threatening, Florida loaded the bases as Ashytn Danley replaced Allison Royalty. The Gators scored another run on a fielder's choice and after a popout, Danley managed to limit the damage holding the Gators to just a 4-2 lead. Amaya Ross got things going for the Noles in the bottom of the second with a one-out triple and was driven in via a sacrifice fly by Mudge cutting the deficit to one.
After allowing the first two Gator batters to get on base, Danley struck out the next two batters she faced and got a ground out to end the top of the third inning. Kalei Harding led off the bottom of the inning with a line drive home run to center field to tie the game at four.
The Gators went on to outscore FSU 7-0 in the fourth and fifth innings taking an 11-4 lead.
FSU answered in the bottom of the sixth inning first with a Jahni Kerr two-run home run, and then an Isa Torres RBI walk cut the Gators' lead to four with one to play.
UF hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning extending their lead to six. The Seminoles would not go down without a fight, with one out FSU loaded up the bases for Mudge who delivered an RBI single. After a Gator error, FSU brought home two more runs and brought the tying run to the plate. Harding stepped in and delivered in the biggest spot of the game, hitting her second home run of the night, this time a three-run home run that tied the game up 13-13 to send the Seminole Softball Complex into a frenzy. After a six-run bottom of the seventh inning, the game headed to extras.
After a scoreless eighth inning, the Gators scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning which proved to be just enough giving them the 15-13 victory.
The Noles as a team combined for 13 hits, four coming by way of home runs, and added two triples. FSU was led offensively by Beachum, Mudge, and Harding finishing with seven hits and nine total RBI.
Florida State's next matchup will be on the road to take on Syracuse for their final three-game series of conference play.
