Simmonds and Huff Each Score Twice to Seal Opening ACC Win

TALLAHASSEE - The No. 2 Florida State soccer team (6-0-1) scored a handful of goals in a 5-1 victory over Syracuse (6-4-1) to begin conference play on Thursday night. Kameron Simmonds and Taylor Huff each scored a brace as FSU pushed its program-best unbeaten streak to 30 games.
FSU's attack was dangerous from the outset and within five minutes Huff's through ball into the box met Peyton McGovern who found Wrianna Hudson for a wide-open shot at the back post for the opening goal. Hudson scored her third goal of the season and recorded a goal in back-to-back games for the first time in her career.
Carissa Boeckman then found Simmonds with a lovely long ball to double the lead before Marianyela Jiménez worked through defenders and set up a inch-perfect pass to Simmonds who tucked it away for the three goal advantage. Simmonds has scored her first three goals as a Seminole in the last two matches.
Simmonds' incredible night continued as she launched a long ball right into Huff's path to allow the team leading goal scorer to seal her seventh goal in seven games. The Orange tacked on a late goal from long range before Ashlyn Puerta played a well-timed ball to Huff on the back post to register her brace on the night.
Florida State will hit the road for the inaugural conference meeting with SMU on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET and available to watch on ACC Network.
