TULSA, Okla. – Corey Craig achieved a third straight win in three days on the first day of the main draw at the ITA All-American Championships.
Craig entered the tournament as a wild card selection and secured two top-100 victories as an unranked player in his first competition as a Seminole to qualify for the main draw. In his first match of the main bracket he faced his first top-25 opponent.
Craig dropped the first set 6-3 before dropping the first game of the second set. The junior transfer unleashed an incredible string of play that propelled him to six straight games and dominated the second frame. In the pressure packed third set, he replicated the exact same feat with six straight games to upset the No. 22 player in the nation and advance to the Main Draw Round of 32.
The doubles pairing of Erik Schiessl and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif looked to continue their impressive run of form and began strong with a 6-4 first set win. Their opponents returned the 6-4 set and set up the third set 10-point tiebreaker. Despite falling behind to 8-4 in the game, Schiessl and Dous-Karpenschif fought back with four straight points to level the game at 8-8. The two pairs traded back and forth before Vanderbilt's pairing took the match at 11-9.
Youcef Rihane and Alex Bulte dropped the first set before earning a 6-2 second set win and force the 10-point tiebreaker. The top-25 pairing of Columbia secured the tiebreaker at 10-4.
Craig will look to continue his incredible run in the singles bracket at 2:30 p.m. ET against Jaden Weekes of Kentucky. The two doubles entries will take part in the consolation bracket of the main draw. Schiessl and Dous-Karpenschif will face No. 7 Sebastian Abboud and Piotr Pawlak of Texas Tech at 3:30 p.m. ET while Rihane and Bulte are set to play at 4:00 p.m. ET against No. 49 Dhakshineswar Suresh and Andrew Delgado of Wake Forest.
