Florida State Falls in Four at No. 5 Stanford

TALLAHASSEE - The Florida State volleyball team (8-8, 2-5) fell to No. 5 Stanford (15-3, 6-1) in four sets (14-25, 13-25, 25-22, 13-25) on Thursday night at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, California.
The Cardinal got out to an early 9-3 lead in the first set and didn't look back. Victoria David got the Noles going offensively, finishing the set with three kills.
Stanford had a similar set two, jumping out to a double-digit lead early. The Noles pulled within seven, but Stanford went on a 6-1 run to close out the set.
The Noles dominated the beginning of set three. FSU started the set up 5-0, which was later extended to a 15-5 lead. Stanford closed the gap 21-21 late down the stretch, until back-to-back Cardinal attack errors put the Noles up two. Kyleene Filimaua got the kill on set point after an FSU challenge reversed the no-touch call on Stanford. Filimaua led the way with five kills for the Seminoles in the set.
FSU began the fourth set down 5-14, and then went on a 4-0 run to bridge the gap to five. The Cardinal pulled away, outscoring FSU 11-4 to win the match.
Filimaua led the way with 11 kills for the Noles, followed by David with 9.
The Noles will be back in action on Saturday night against Cal in Berkeley, California. First serve is set for 7 p.m. on ACCNX.
