Fullbrook And Nakatani Lead Seminoles To Second Place Finish At Jim West

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Sophomore Sophia Fullbrook and freshman Haruhi Nakatani both finished tied for seventh in the individual standings, and the Florida State women's golf team finished in second place in the team standings as play in the Jim West Challenge at the Kissing Tree Golf Course came to a close. Fullbrook and Nakatani both finished with five-under par scores of 211 as they led the Seminoles with top 10 individual finishes.

The Seminoles finished the event with three players ranked in the top-15 of the individual standings as Fullbrook (-5, 211), Nakatani (-5, 211), and Alexandra Gazzoli (-2, 214) all finished under par for the4 54-hole event. Each of those three Seminoles earned one score in the 60's during the three rounds of the event.

No. 5 Texas A&M surged to the top of the team leaderboard with a tournament-best 13-under par team score in the final round. The Aggies defeated the Seminoles by one stroke to win the team championship. Natalie Saint Germain of Houston won the individual championship with a 10-under par total score of 206. Saint Germain carded three scores in the 60s – 69-69-68 – to claim medalist honors.

"I super-proud of each of the girls and how they played this weekend," said head coach Amy Bond. "We made some really big improvements throughout the week. I am very happy with their play given the weather conditions on Sunday. We led the field with 63 birdies and that's a huge accomplishment.

"Playing well in this event really gives us a lot of momentum as we head to the East Lake Cup this weekend."

Fullbrook carded a 2-under par score of 70 in the third round and finished with a three-round score of 211 – the second-lowest tournament score of her Seminole career. She earned her fourth career top 10 finish.

Fullbrook finished the tournament with 12 birdies and her third consecutive top 15 finish. She has earned three consecutive top 15 individual finishes this fall – ninth place in the Folds of Honor Collegiate, tied for 13th at the Schooner Fall Classic, and tied for seventh at the Jim West.

Nakatani earned the best finish (and first top 10 finish) of her career as she finished in a tie for seventh place with scores of 70-68-73. She carded four birdies in the third round including her fourth on her final hole of the round. Nakatani carded two of three rounds under par including a career-low 68 in the second round.

Gazzoli played the best round of golf for the Seminoles in the third round as she finished with a career-low tying score of 69. She carded five birdies – the same number she carded in the first round – and finished the tournament with 13 total birdies. Gazzoli birdied her first hole to go under par and remained at par throughout the third round. She finished the event with scores of 74-71-69.

Sophomore Elin Pudas Remler finished in 22nd place with a three-round total of 217. In finishing just one stroke over par, she earned a score of 71 in the final round. Pudas Remler finished with two of her three scores at under par with a 70 in the first round and a 71 in the second round.

The Seminoles close out their fall season at the prestigious East Lake Cup at the East Lake Club in Atlanta, Ga., (Oct. 27-29).
