CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Florida State head coach Luke Loucks won media day.

And it wasn't even close.

One of the first questions he was asked at the annual ACC Tip Off media event was: Who is the most famous person in your phone contact list?

By way of response, the first-year head coach took out his phone, and called California, despite a three-hour time difference.

Seconds later he had the greatest 3-point shooter in NBA history on Facetime.

The caller was none other than NBA All-Star Steph Curry.

"What's up Seminole family," said Curry.

That's how the day began for Loucks, along with seniors Kobe MaGee and Chauncey Wiggins, at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown at the nation's oldest and most important preseason media gathering. The trio of Seminoles answered questions over a four-hour span about the upcoming season.

Loucks and his players met with some of the most influential writers and broadcasters who regularly cover the ACC. In addition to meeting and speaking with the broadcast media, the Seminoles took an array of pictures, visited with important radio personalities, and appeared live on the ACC Network.

"I am excited about the group we've put together very quickly on the job," said Loucks to a group of writers. "I'm excited to be a head coach in this conference. This conference historically has been the best basketball conference in the country."

Loucks knows well the historical significance of the conference, having led Florida State to the first ACC Championship in school history in 2012 as the Seminoles' point guard. He helped lead the Seminoles to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (2009-12) including a Sweet 16 appearance and still holds the Florida State record for assists in an ACC Tournament Championship game.

"Coming back to Florida State is a dream come true," Loucks told Matt Schick and Luke Hanckock of the ACC Network. "I love Florida State. I love the basketball team and the football team; I love everything athletics. My wife was a swimmer there, we have real community. On a personal level, it's so much fun to go back to a place where you have authentic relationships, and they know how hard you are going to work to get this program back on track."

Loucks was followed on the press conference podium by both MaGee and Wiggins as both players made their first appearances at the ACC Tip Off event.

MaGee was Loucks' first commitment as the Seminole great was piecing together his team after accepting his dream job on March 9, 2025.

"Honestly, I treat Coach like he's one of my teammates." said MaGee. "If I see him at a football game, we chat it up, and I talk a little trash here and there. I think we bonded really well. Not just only him, but our entire staff.

"The player development (is the biggest thing), the people that he has brought in, the coaching staff. They all have the same mindset and they all have the same goal. With that energy that they bring in every day, it's definitely motivating."

Wiggins, the most experienced Seminole with three years and 58 games of ACC play at Clemson under his belt, enjoys the chemistry and camaraderie that has developed among Louck's first Florida State squad.

"We all love each other, and we want to play for each other," said Wiggins. "We don't really care about what we do within ourselves. We just care about team success. Team success is always the first thing at Florida State.

"Whether that's me getting Kobe an open three, or Kobe getting me an open three, or making a winning play, getting on the floor, we just love each other. We want team success to come first before ourselves."

Loucks is one of three current ACC coaches – Loucks, Duke's Jon Scheyer, and North Carolina's Hubert Davis - who has won an ACC Championship as a player, and who is currently coaching at his alma mater.

The eighth head coach in school history is confident in the roster he and his staff have assembled.

"We have six seniors, and really even some underclassmen, that we could have brought to this event," said Loucks. "I could have brought six to eight guys. Ultimately our seniors are going to be a backbone of our team with a lot of young underclassmen who can really get after it.

"If you can shoot, you have skill, and you are tough, you can play for us."

The ultra-competitive Loucks and his Seminoles are set to open up their exhibition season against Alabama at the Ballin in Boutwell event at the Boutwell Auditorium in Brimingham, Ala. on Oct. 16.

Turns out when Loucks dials up greatness, it answers, and the ACC is officially on notice.
