TALLAHASSEE - Florida State junior Eva Shaw qualified for the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championships by finishing in a tie for fifth at the ITA South Sectionals in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, this weekend.

The Seminoles sent Shaw and Bissett to Baton Rouge to compete in both singles and doubles competition. The pair had a perfect first day of the tournament, which began Thursday, each earning a win in their individual matches and capping the day with a doubles victory.

Shaw advanced to the singles quarterfinals after a tough three-set victory, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, over No. 69 Raquel Gonzalez of Miami. After falling in the quarterfinals, Shaw finished tied for fifth in the consolation playoff to earn her spot in Orlando for the NCAA Singles Championships.

The NCAA Singles Championship bracket will be revealed Monday on NCAA.com. The 64-person tournament will begin play on Tuesday, November 18, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.

Florida State also sent six individuals to the UNF Invitational, which began Friday. The doubles competition was divided into four flights, while singles play had seven. FSU earned nine victories over the three-day tournament, qualifying for two singles finals and one doubles final.

Mary Boyce Deatherage had an excellent tournament, winning the Flight 2 doubles final with partner Kristyna Lavickova, and earned a spot in the Flight B singles final.

Senior Cade Cricchio, who won her flight in this event last year, qualified again for the Flight E singles final after earning a three-set victory, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, in the semifinals over Aryana Barlett of North Florida.
