No. 3 FSU Plays No. 2 TCU in College Cup Friday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The No. 3-seeded Florida State soccer team will play in its 15th NCAA College Cup in the National Semifinal against No. 2-seeded TCU on Friday, December 5, at 6 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. CT, at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

With four national championships and 15 College Cup appearances, Florida State is making its 26th NCAA Tournament appearance, every year since 2000, and playing in the College Cup for the fourth time in the last five years. The Seminoles are 87-19-6 (.804) all-time in the NCAA Tournament. That includes a 6-7-1 record in the Semifinal with a 1-0 mark in penalty kicks. FSU's national titles (4), College Cup appearances (15), NCAA Tournament wins (87) and NCAA win percentage (.804) all are second-best among all D-I programs. Since the start of the 2020 Tournament, Florida State is unbeaten in 27 of its last 28 NCAA games, and the last 12 in a row, with two national titles in those five-plus years.
The Seminoles have advanced to the National Final in four of their last five College Cups and six of their last eight. That includes 2014, 2018, 2021 and 2023, when Florida State went on to win the national championship.
FSU is coming off a 4-1 home win over Ohio State in the Quarterfinal on November 28. Florida State began NCAA play with a 4-0 home victory against Samford before a 1-0 neutral-site win vs. Lipscomb. A 3-1 win at No. 2-seed Georgetown in the Third Round followed, the Seminoles' first true road NCAA win since 2008 and first in the Third Round since 2003. The team hadn't played an NCAA road game since 2017 and just three of the 11 overall have come after 2008.
Unbeaten in its last eight games overall with a 16-3 scoring margin in its last six games, FSU is 14-2-4 on the season, 8-1-2 at home, 5-1-2 on the road, 1-0-0 at a neutral site, 3-2-1 against top-25 opponents and 4-0-0 in the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles finished fourth in the ACC with a 6-2-2 record. FSU played three of the four No. 1 seeds in this year's NCAA Tournament in ACC play, going 1-2-1 against those three squads.
FSU has scored 55 goals with 60 assists on 375 shots and 169 shots on goal in 2025. In 20 games, the team has allowed 15 goals on 142 shots, 54 on target, with 39 saves for a 0.75 goals-against average and a .722 save percentage.
Junior forward Jordynn Dudley leads the team with 36 points, 14 assists and 78 shots and is second with 11 goals and 31 shots on goal. A National Player of the Year finalist, she had a point in 13 consecutive games with multiple points in four of the last five matches to conclude the regular season. Sophomore forward Wrianna Hudson paces the team with 13 goals and 36 shots on goal and is second with 27 points and 54 shots. In goal, freshman Kate Ockene has made 19 saves in her 12 appearances for a .704 save percentage and a 0.81 goals-against average.
In the national rankings, FSU is No. 5 in the country in goals per game (2.75), points per game (8.50) and goal differential (+40), No. 6 in assists per game (3.00), No. 8 in shots on goal per game (8.45), No. 9 in shots per game (18.75), No. 18 in corner kicks per game (6.70), No. 19 in shutout percentage (.550) and No. 27 in goals-against average (0.746).
Individually, Dudley is fourth in the NCAA in assists per game (0.70), fifth in total assists (14), 13th in points per game (1.80), 17th in total points (36) and 19th in shots per game (3.90). Hudson ranks No. 4 in shot accuracy (.667), No. 25 in total goals (13), No. 26 in shots on goal per game (1.80) and No. 27 in goals per game (0.65).
In the final regular-season poll, Florida State remained at No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches top-25, released on November 4. The Seminoles also are fifth in the latest Top Drawer Soccer poll.
SERIES HISTORY VS. TCU
Florida State is 2-0-0 all-time against TCU and 1-0-0 both at home and on the road. The series began in Tallahassee on August 22, 2019, where the top-ranked Seminoles opened the season with a 2-0 victory. Four seasons later, No. 6 FSU traveled to No. 9 TCU and posted a 2-0 win on August 20, 2023, to wrap up the opening weekend in Texas.
Current Seminoles Dudley (2 shots, 44 minutes), Heather Gilchrist (90 minutes), Sophia Nguyen (79 minutes) and Mimi Van Zanten (1 shot, 84 minutes) all started in the win. Goals came in the 71st and 74th minutes, 2:10 apart, as the visitors had eight shots, three on goal, to TCU's nine shots, one on frame.
SCOUTING THE HORNED FROGS
TCU is 18-2-3 on the season, 11-2-2 at home, 7-0-1 on the road and 0-0-0 at a neutral site. The Horned Frogs won the Big 12 regular-season title with a 9-1-1 record. In the NCAA Tournament, second-seeded TCU beat Grambling State 7-0 and No. 7 Memphis 4-0 before a 1-1 draw to North Carolina in the Third Round. The home-sided Frogs advanced on penalty kicks 4-3. In the Quarterfinal, TCU upset top-seeded Vanderbilt 2-1 in overtime. The team is led by 14th-year head coach Eric Bell, an assistant coach at Florida State for six seasons from 2006-11.
In the College Cup for the first time in program history, the Horned Frogs made the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time overall, all in the last 10 years. TCU reached the Quarterfinal for the second time ever after hosting the Second and Third rounds for the first time.
LAST TIME OUT: COLLEGE CUP-CLINCHING WIN
Florida State advanced to the NCAA College Cup with a 4-1 win over Ohio State in front of a sold-out crowd at the Seminole Soccer Complex on November 28. With the win, FSU improved to 13-4-2 in the Quarterfinals, with a five game unbeaten streak in the round of eight. FSU beat an Ohio State side that had upset three consecutive seeded opponents away from home to reach the Quarterfinal.
Dudley netted her eighth career brace, scoring the game's first two goals just 4:10 apart, including the game-winner. It's her second career postseason brace and third overall in 2025. She also had an assist for her second five-point game of the year and fifth game with at least three points. Dudley led the offense with a career-high 11 shots in the win, five on goal.
After Dudley's goals in the 36th and 40th minutes, junior midfielder Yuna McCormack got the Seminoles' third goal in the 51st minute just 78 seconds after OSU scored to make it a 2-1 game. Hudson netted the final score in the 85th minute to put the game away at 4-1.
Freshman midfielder Nawreen Ahmad assisted on Dudley's first goal, the first of her career, and sophomore midfielder Taylor Suarez had one of two assists on Hudson's goal, her team-best fourth of the postseason.
Florida State outshot Ohio State 25-14 with a 13-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Seminoles took five corner kicks while holding the Buckeyes to two. Ockene posted three saves to her OSU counterpart's eight.
