Bol Bowen’s Late 3-Point Shot Lifts Seminoles Over Wake Forest, 72-70

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Florida State's Taylor Bol Bowen made a 3-point shot with 15 seconds remaining to give Florida State a 70-69 lead, and Justin Thomas made a fastbreak layup with two seconds remaining to lift the Seminoles to a 72-70 win over Wake Forest at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Seminoles trailed by two with 24 seconds left to play and outscored the Demon Deacons by a 5-1 margin to claim their second ACC road win of the season.

Florida State improved to 15-9 overall and 6-7 in ACC play. Wake Forest is now 18-7 and 10-4 in ACC play. 

With 32 seconds left a layup by Malique Ewin brought the game to a 67-67 tie. Bol Bown followed with his made 3-pointer to extend the Seminole lead to 70-69. Thomas then put the Seminoles up 72-69. 

Wake Forest's Cameron Hildreth drew a foul with 0.03 seconds remaining and was sent to the line for three free throws. Hildreth missed his first shot, made his second shot, and missed his third attempt and the clock expired on the miss to end the game.

Florida State closed a 16-point deficit in the final 8:22 of the game. The Seminoles trailed 61-45 and outscored the Demon Deacons by a 27-9 run to gain the win.  Chandler Jackson started the run with his only basket of the night at the 8:03 mark to draw the Seminoles to within 14 at 61-47.

Bol Bowen finished the game with 15 points, 13 of those points coming in the second half. He totaled three 3-point shots and was a perfect four of four from the free throw line.  He also added one assist and one steal. 

Jamir Watkins also added 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. He scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half.

Malique Ewin totaled his second consecutive double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, making his presence on the floor undeniable. He has now totaled nine double-doubles this season.

Florida State outscored Wake Forest by a 51-35 mark in the second half. The Seminoles held the Demon Deacons to just two made 3-point field goals in the second half after trailing the home team by 35-21 margin at the half.

The Seminoles come back to Tallahassee to play host to the Clemson Tigers on February 15 at 12:00 pm in the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.
