Noles Finish Perfect 4-0 Week with 8-1 Win Over UCF

2/16/2025 11:38:00 PM | Softball

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Florida State softball team (8-1) closed out the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational with an 8-1 win over UCF (7-5-1) on Saturday night. FSU finished a perfect 4-0 in the Clearwater Invitational marking a tournament record third time FSU has finished undefeated in Clearwater in the tournament's history.

Back-to-back singles from gave the Knights the first threat of the game in the bottom of the first inning, but starting pitcher Annabelle Widra made a huge play throwing out UCFs lead runner at third to reach two outs then went on to strike out the next batter to end the inning.

The Noles got back-to-back singles from Katie Dack and Jahni Kerr to lead off the second inning. Dack and Kerr moved to second and third on a throwing error, and Dack scampered home on a wild pitch to give the Noles the lead. Amaya Ross hit a deep fly ball to score Kerr on a sacrifice fly to give the Noles the 2-0 lead.

Kennedy Harp extended her hitting streak to 11 games dating back to last season with a single in the third inning. Michaela Edenfield was hit by a pitch, and both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Dack smoked a ball to the gap in right field but a strong wind kept it in the yard and gave time for the outfielder to make the catch, but Harp was able to tag up and score from third.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Jaysoni Beachum and Harp opened up the fifth inning with a pair of singles. Edenfield then hit a hard ground ball to the second baseman that she couldn't handle to allow Beachum to score. Dack got her second RBI of the night on another sacrifice fly. Kerr hit a ground ball deep enough to allow Madi Frey to score to make it 6-0.

Torres laid down a great bunt in the sixth inning, and Beachum reached on an error to put runners in scoring position for Harp. Harp roped one into left field to extend her RBI streak to nine games. Harp is the only player in FSU history to record a RBI in each of the first nine games of the season.

The Knights would put a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth to cut down the deficit to 7-1.

The Noles threatened again in the top of the seventh thanks to a walk from Dack, a single from Kerr and drawn hit-by-pitch by Angelee Bueno. Ashtyn Danley picked up her first RBI of the year on a sacrifice fly.

Widra was phenomenal in the circle again for the Seminoles as the senior from Hoover, Alabama, pitched a season-high five innings and did not allow a run while striking out two. Widra improved to 3-0 this season and has allowed just one run in 16.2 innings this season.

Jazzy Francik came on in relief in the sixth inning and did allow a run but bounced back with a clean inning in the seventh including a strikeout for the final out of the game.

FSU will next play its home opener against Florida A&M in the first game of the JoAnne Graf Classic on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The Noles will play a doubleheader against Southeastern Louisiana on Friday and a doubleheader showdown with No. 5 Texas A&M on Saturday. All games can be seen live on ACCNX.
