Noles Stun No. 20 Georgia Tech as Bowles Hits Career High

ATLANTA - The Florida State women's basketball team (22-6, 12-4 ACC) defeated No. 20 Georgia Tech (21-7, 9-7 ACC) 73-70, on Sunday at the McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta.
Behind a career-high 32 points, Sydney Bowles led the Noles, becoming the fourth player to contribute a 30-point game this season. Bowles also dished six assists, which was also a career high.
Makayla Timpson completed her 45th career double-double and 14th of the season with 19 points and 16 rebounds.
In a tightly contested match up, the Noles kept pace with the Yellow Jackets, wrapping up the first quarter trailing 19-16.
FSU and Georgia Tech each scored 15 points in the second quarter, as the Noles went into halftime trailing by three, 34-31.
Fueled by a six-point run and shooting over 70 percent, the Noles were given a boost by Bowles with nine points and two rebounds, helping FSU pull ahead to a 57-49 at the end of the third quarter. Amaya Bonner was also crucial in the third, adding six points in the frame.
Florida State extended its lead to 13 points in the fourth quarter, but Georgia Tech fought back to tie.
With a tight game tied with two-minutes remaining and the teams alternating scoring, Bowles hit a turnaround jumper, but Tech answered to tied 68-68. On the next possession, Timpson shot a jumper in the paint to regain the lead. After defense made a stop with Timpson coming up with the rebound, Georgia Tech was forced to foul with 18 seconds remaining.
Bowles hit three free throws down the stretch, but after a miss from Timpson at the line, the Yellow Jackets drove on the final possession and missed the three, as the Noles finished the game 73-70.
This Thursday, Florida State will continue the road to face No. 1 Notre Dame (24-3, 15-1 ACC) in South Bend, Indiana, at 8 p.m. on ACC Network.
