Results of Every FSU Athletic Competition and More at Your Fingertips

Ever wondered how much time was left when Warrick Dunn scored at Florida? Or who made the game-winning shot in women's basketball's win over Notre Dame this year? Or, perhaps, what the score was in the Seminoles' first-ever baseball game? Maybe, who was #34 on the football team in 1968?
Well, it's all right at your fingertips thanks to the remarkable dedication of Bob Perrone who has for several decades developed a unique computer program and keyed in by hand the statistics for every single competition in every sport in Florida State history.
Making use of the volumes of information saved by our sports information office over the years, Bob has created a digital archive of every result in the history of Florida State. And the task was far more difficult than you might imagine.
When I started full-time at FSU in 1987 there was not a single computer in the entire athletics department. We typed our results, mailed out press releases and used a Telex, a cumbersome early version of a fax machine that took either four or six minutes to transmit one page of text, to communicate the results of competitions. In fact, I recently found a telegraph, yes telegraph, sent from Chicago with our men's gymnastics results in 1958.
Athletics saved the vast majority of the information over the years but it was all in printed format and stuffed in filing cabinets, bound in notebooks and hidden in desk drawers. The system made sense, but could only be accessed by our staff.
The computer/digital age made the lives of everyone in college athletics communication much easier, but all were faced with returning to the old files when, for instance, CBS Sports wanted a photo of Burt Reynolds' run against Auburn.
Here's where Bob not only earned his stripes, but a place in FSU's Athletics Hall of Fame.
A former Seminole track & field athlete, he's a combination historian/librarian who decided early on that he was going to do what he could to preserve the history digitally that we had but could not make use of. He pitched his idea to me and over the next 20 years or so he would spend countless hours traveling to retrieve files and manually input the data.
The result is nothing short of sensational. We are believed to be the only school in the country that has a searchable database of every single competition, roster and result in the history of our program.
To explore the archive visit SEMINOLES.COM (the official website of Florida State Athletics) and scroll over the word ATHLETICS in the subhead then scroll over to HISTORY AND TRADITIONS and click on ALL TIME PLAYER/TEAM STATS or go directly to Nolefan.org. There you'll find a literal treasure trove of the history of every competition, roster and just about anything else you can imagine.
