No. 9 Softball Splits Doubleheader on Friday

EUGENE, Oregon - The No. 9 Florida State softball team (19-4) split a doubleheader on the first day of the Jane Sanders Classic in Eugene, Oregon. FSU beat Oregon State (9-11), 8-0, in five innings in the first game of the day and fell to No. 12 Oregon (21-1), 2-0, in the nightcap.Â

Game 1 (Florida State 8 Oregon State 0; 5 inn.)
There was no sluggish start for the Seminoles in game one against the Beavers as they run ruled Oregon State 8-0 in five innings.

Jaysoni Beachum was the first baserunner aboard for the Seminoles in the top of the first as she drew a four-pitch walk. Kennedy Harp hit her nation-leading eighth triple on the first pitch she saw to give the Noles the early 1-0 lead.Â

Shelby McKenzie led off the second inning with an infield single, and Amaya Ross doubled to put two runners in scoring position for the Noles. Annabelle Widra hit a fly ball to center field to score McKenzie, and Isa Torres hit a double to score Ross to make it 3-0. Harp picked up her second hit of the day on a little pop up that squirted away from the second baseman to allow Torres to score. Harp stole second to move into scoring position, and Michaela Edenfield brought her home on a single up the middle to make it 5-0.Â

Hallie Wacaser led off the top of the third inning with a no-doubt home run to left field to make it 6-0. Wacaser picked up two more RBI in the top of the fourth to give the Noles the 8-0 lead.Â

Freshman Jazzy Francik was terrific in the circle for the Noles as she pitched five scoreless innings and allowed just three hits while striking out six. Francik improved to 3-1 on the season and became the first Nole this season to pitch a complete game.

Game 2 (FSU 0 Oregon 2)
The Noles were unable to get anything going offensively in the nightcap as they fell to the Ducks 2-0.

One hit was the difference on the night as the Ducks got all their runs on a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. The Noles had just one hit on the night.

Annabelle Widra got the start for the Noles and went 3.1 innings and struck out two. Danley came in relief and did not surrender a hit in 2.2 innings while striking out three.Â

The Noles will be back in action tomorrow at 4 p.m. against Oregon State on BTN+.
