The Seminoles (30-7) trailed 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning, but tied it at 4-4 in the bottom half and added four more in the fifth to take an 8-4 lead. The Hatters (27-15) got back within two in the sixth before FSU scored three insurance runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
In a matchup between two teams that lead their conferences in league winning percentage, Florida State's offense benefited from three home runs and the defense turned in several outstanding plays. FSU scored its 11 runs on eight hits and Stetson scored six runs on 10 hits. The Seminoles committed two errors and the Hatters had three as both teams stranded seven runners on base.
Junior right fielder Gage Harrelson had two hits and four RBI, sophomore left fielder Chase Williams had two hits, two RBI, four stolen bases and three runs scored and freshman catcher Hunter Carns had one hit, three RBI and two runs scored. All three players' RBI totals tied their career bests.
Carns hit his sixth home run of the season, Harrelson hit his fourth and junior center fielder Max Williams hit his team-leading 15th long ball in 2025.
Chase Williams' four stolen bases are tied for fourth-most in program history. Jordan Williams also had four in a game in 2024, but before that the last Seminole to swipe four or more bags in a game was J.D. Drew, who had four in 1997 against Clemson. Chase Williams entered the day with four career stolen bases, which he has now doubled.
Sophomore right-hander John Abraham pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in relief and earned the win to improve to 3-0 on the season. He gave up two hits, struck out one and did not walk a batter.
In the all-time series between the two in-state opponents, FSU extends its lead to 70-26 overall and 45-11 at home. Florida State has won two in a row and three of the last four overall and 19 in a row at home.
Stetson took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Harrelson made a diving catch and doubled up a runner trying to score to end the third before the Hatters made it 4-0 with three in the fourth. A two-out, two-RBI single scored the final two runs, both unearned.
In the bottom half of the fourth, Florida State quickly answered to tie the game at 4-4. With runners on second and third and one out, a wild pitch scored junior second baseman Drew Faurot. Harrelson then homered with two outs to right to score Chase Williams and Carns and tie the game.
Abraham followed with a scoreless fifth, with the help of an amazing catch by Chase Williams in deep center field.
FSU then took its first lead in the bottom half of the fifth. Max Williams led off the inning with a homer on a 3-2 pitch off the scoreboard in left. Chase Williams doubled home Faurot and freshman first baseman Myles Baily for the eventual game-winning runs. Chase Williams then scored from third on a throwing error as the catcher tried to pick him off third. The four runs on two hits, with the help of an error, gave the Seminoles an 8-4 advantage they would not relinquish.
The Hatters answered with two in the sixth on a fielder's choice and single. A groundout ended the inning and left one on in an 8-6 ballgame.
Carns put the game out of reach with his three-run home run to left in the seventh. The long ball on an 0-2 pitch came with no outs, after a single and walk.
Sophomore right-hander Chris Knier got the final six outs of the game. He came in with two on and no outs in the eighth and got a strikeout and a double play lineout to end that threat before he retired the side in order in the ninth to seal the 11-6 midweek win.
FSU travels to No. 19 Louisville for a top-20 series from April 25-27. The series in Louisville, Kentucky, begins on Friday, April 25, at 6 p.m. ET, followed by a 2 p.m. matchup on Saturday, April 26. The finale is on Sunday, April 27, at 3 p.m. on ACC Network.
