Win Streak Snapped as No. 4 FSU Falls at No. 19 Louisville

4/26/2025 6:00:00 PM | Baseball

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 4 Florida State baseball team saw its six game win streak come to an end with a 9-4 loss at No. 19 Louisville on Saturday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky.

In the second game of the three-game series between the top-20 nationally-ranked teams, UofL evened the series with the rubber match set for Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET on ACC Network. FSU will go for its ninth series win of the season and second consecutive against a top-25 opponent at Jim Patterson Stadium.

The Seminoles (31-8, 12-5 ACC) scored four runs on six hits with one error. The Cardinals (29-13, 11-9 ACC) scored nine runs on 10 hits with no errors.

Junior shortstop Alex Lodise led the team with two hits and three RBI in the defeat.

Redshirt junior left-hander Joey Volini allowed three runs on five hits in 5.0 innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter. Volini got a no-decision for the first time in 10 starts this season and did not earn a win for just the second time.

Florida State took a first-inning lead for the second consecutive day in the series, as Lodise doubled home junior right fielder Gage Harrelson.

Volini left runners on third in each of the first three innings. The second inning ended on a strikeout after the runner had taken third with one out. Volini fired a 1-2-3 fourth inning on 13 pitches, his first perfect inning of the day.

The Seminoles scored three in the fifth to extend their lead to 4-0. Back-to-back walks put two on for Lodise, who doubled in both freshman designated hitter Hunter Carns and Harrelson. Lodise scored from third on a sac fly by freshman first baseman Myles Bailey.

Louisville scored its first run on an RBI single after a leadoff double to make it 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth. In the sixth, a run-scoring double made it 4-2 and marked the end of Volini's outing. Against the bullpen, UofL got another RBI double and a sac fly to tie the game at 4-4.

The Cardinals took their first lead of the weekend in the seventh on a sac fly and extended the new advantage to 7-4 on a two-RBI double with two outs.

In the eighth, a single and a sacrifice bunt scored two to make it 9-4.

FSU had a runner reach in the ninth, but a double play negated the threat.

The top-20 series concludes on Sunday, April 27, at 3 p.m. ET on ACC Network.
