TALLAHASSEE – Florida State men's golf head coach and director of golf Trey Jones and associate head coach Matt Whall were named to the Arnold Palmer Cup coaching staff on Friday.
The Ryder Cup-style competition will be held at the Congaree Golf Club in Ridgeland, South Carolina from June 5-7, featuring men's and women's collegiate golfers from the United States versus international players.
USA leads the all-time series 15-12-1.
Jones will assist Team USA, while Whall will work with Team International that includes Tyler Weaver, Mirabel Ting and Lottie Woad.
Jones is in his 22nd year at Florida State. FSU was the only school to win both of their 2025 NCAA Regionals (W: Lexington, M: Tallahassee), and Jones' men have captured three other team victories this season. They have been led on the course by Weaver, who was the ACC runner-up in 2025, and Mark H. McCormack Medal recipient Luke Clanton. Jones has also coached seven Palmer Cup alumni.
Whall is in his first season as associate head coach of both golf programs at Florida State. The women have won seven of their last eight tournaments, including the program's first ACC Championship. FSU won a third NCAA Regional title in the last five years. The women have been led on the course by Division I PING WGCA Player of the Year Watch List members Ting and Woad. Woad was also the 2024 Mark H. McCormack Medal recipient.
Whall has coached a combined nine Palmer Cup alumni while at Florida State, including 2021 Palmer Cup alumna and 2021 WGCA First Team All-American Beatrice Wallin. She finished her Florida State career with the second-lowest scoring average in program history.
The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and began at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando in 1997. The Palmer Cup is the only major tournament that features men and women playing side-by-side as partners.
