Wiggins and McCray V Lead Seminoles in 91-87 Loss to No. 5/6 Duke

TALLAHASSEE – Chauncey Wiggins and Robert McCray V scored 22 points each in Florida State's 91-87 loss to the No. 5/6 Duke Blue Devils in the Tucker Center. Wiggins' 22 points tied his career high which he set against Alcorn State on November 4, 2025. Wiggins' four made 3-point shots tied his career high. Wiggins has made four 3-point shots against three teams during his career.
The Seminoles fell to 7-8 and 0-2 in ACC play, and Duke improved to 13-1 and 2-0 in ACC play.
McCray V's 22 also set his new ACC single-game scoring record. In addition to his 22 points, McCray V recorded five assists, two steals, and a season-high two blocks.
Senior Kobe MaGee (17 points) and sophomore Martin Somerville (10 points) rounded out the four Seminoles who finished in double-digit scoring.
The Seminoles made 14 3-point shots, which is good for the fourth most made 3-point shots in an ACC game in school history. Florida State attempted 30 3-point shots. The Seminoles' 30 attempted 3-point shots are tied for the sixth most 3-point shots attempted in an ACC game in school history.
McCray V opened the scoring for the second straight game with a made 3-point shot.
Florida State focused on getting into transition in the first half as they outscored the Blue Devils in fast break points 10-4.
The Seminoles' first three baskets came from behind the arc, and they led 9-5 at the 16:24 mark of the first half.
Florida State held a 17-13 lead with 12:44 left to play in the first half.
Florida State opened up a seven point lead – their largest of the game – as Alex Steen fought through contact to convert an and-one layup. After making the free throw, the Seminoles had a 20-13 lead.
In addition to Steen's five points, he added three offensive rebounds and two steals. Steen leads the Seminoles and the ACC in offensive rebounds.
The Seminoles led Duke 28-26 with 6:35 remaining in the half. A made 3-point shot from Wiggins extended the Florida State lead to five, 31-26, with just over five minutes to play.
Florida State shot 8-17 (47.1%) from deep in the first half. Somerville made two of the eight Florida State first-half 3-point shots.
Somerville extended his streak of games with a made 3-point shot to 43 consecutive games and 46 of 47 games in his career. He has made two more 3-point shots in 11 of Florida State's 15 games this season.
The Seminoles and the Blue Devils would enter halftime tied at 42-42.
Duke opened the second half with a made 3-point shot to take its first lead of the game, 45-42.
Duke led 51-46 with 17:13 left in the game. Florida State would go on an 8-2 run, fueled by back-to-back made 3-point shots from McCray V and Wiggins.
Wiggins capped the run with a made tip-in to put Florida State back on top 54-53 with just over 16 minutes remaining in the game.
Florida State held a 63-62 lead at the 13:26 mark of the second half. A quick 6-0 Duke run would give the Blue Devils a 68-63 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the game.
The Blue Devils held a three-point lead, 68-65. Over the next minute of game time, the Blue Devils would go on a 7-0 run and extend their lead to nine points, 74-65, with 8:37 to go.
Over the next three minutes, the Seminoles would go on a 6-1 run, cutting the Blue Devil lead to three points, 75-72, at the five-minute mark.
Florida State trailed by five, 87-82, with 26 seconds remaining in the game. MaGee sunk a 3-point shot with 23 seconds left to cut the Duke lead down to two, 87-85.
MaGee finished the game with four made 3-point shots. MaGee has now made four 3-point shots for the fifth time this season.
The Blue Devils would go on to ice the game with four consecutive made free throws.
Duke's Isaiah Evans scored a game-high 28 points on six made 3-point field goals and six of six made free throws. A total of five Blue Devils scored in double figures.
