TALLAHASSEE – The No. 15 Florida State soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to No. 17 Notre Dame on Saturday night at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee.
The loss snaps a seven-game unbeaten and three-game win streak for the Seminoles (7-2-3, 3-1-2 ACC), who suffer their first ACC loss of the season. The Fighting Irish (7-1-6, 5-1-1 ACC) scored once in each half.
UND had an 8-6 advantage in shots, and a 4-3 edge in shots on goal, though shots were 6-3 in the second half in favor of FSU, with three of those shots on frame. The visitors had three corners to the Seminoles' one.
Junior forward Wrianna Hudson had a team-high two shots and was one of three players with one shot on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Ockene made two saves and Notre Dame's keeper had three stops.
The Fighting Irish took a 1-0 lead at 14:22.
After two UND shots were forced high, Ockene made her first save of the game in the 43rd minute, one minute before the FSU defense forced a Notre Dame shot wide of the post.
The visiting side extended their advantage to 2-0 at 45:47.
FSU quickly followed with two shots, the first saved on a chance by senior forward Tanner Strickland and the second going just wide.
A blocked shot by the Seminoles followed in the 55th minute.
Nine minutes later, Hudson almost got a goal for the Seminoles, but a nice save was made.
Ockene made her second save in the 67th minute, two minutes before sophomore defender Nawreen Ahmad took a shot that resulted in another save.
The Seminoles' final two chances came in the 78th and 82nd minutes, on a nicely-placed cross into the box before a Hudson shot that was wide right.
The Seminoles remain home to host No. 6 Duke on Thursday, October 29, at 8 p.m. ET, at the Seminole Soccer Complex. It is the team's annual Paint it Pink Game presented by TMH. Tickets are available for all fans at Seminoles.com/Tickets or by calling the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at 850-644-1830. Admission is free for all FSU students with their Unconquered Pass.
