Seminoles Defeat Jacksonville, 3-1

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State volleyball team (9-6) defeated Jacksonville (7-10) 3-1 Wednesday night inside Tully Gymnasium to extend its four-match home winning streak.
The Seminoles finished the match with 55 kills, 69 digs and eight blocks.
Three Seminoles recorded double-digit kills, led by senior outside hitter Kyleene Filimaua with 16. Sophomore middle blocker Nenu Kpea added 13 kills, while junior opposite hitter Bailey Higgins finished with 11.
Filimaua and Higgins each recorded double-doubles, with Filimaua adding 14 digs and Higgins posting 15. It marked Filimaua's seventh double-double of the season, while Higgins recorded the first double-double of her career. Her 15 digs also marked a career high.
Kpea turned in one of the most efficient performances of her career, hitting a career-high .684 on 19 attempts.
Junior setter Emma Lilo recorded a match-high 43 assists and added 13 digs for her fourth double-double of the season.
The Seminoles built a 7-4 lead in the first set, but the Dolphins responded to even the set at 10-10. FSU regained control with a 13-10 advantage and maintained a 15-12 lead at the media timeout. The Seminoles continued to pull away, extending their advantage to 22-17 before closing out the opening set 25-17.
The Dolphins took a 6-4 lead early in the second set before FSU responded with a 5-0 run to move ahead 9-6. Jacksonville answered to tie the set at 9-9, and the teams remained within striking distance throughout the middle portion of the frame. FSU eventually created separation at 20-16 and forced a Jacksonville timeout. The Seminoles finished the set 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead.
The third set remained close early, with the teams tied at 9-9 before Jacksonville took a 12-9 advantage and forced an FSU timeout. The Dolphins carried a 15-11 lead into the media timeout, but the Seminoles battled back to even the set at 18-18. Jacksonville regained a 22-20 advantage, only for FSU to respond with two straight points and force another Jacksonville timeout. The Dolphins ultimately held off the Seminoles 26-24 to extend the match.
FSU came out strong in the fourth set, jumping ahead 4-0 and extending its lead to 10-4. Jacksonville cut the deficit to 15-13 at the media timeout before FSU maintained a 19-17 advantage. The Dolphins continued to battle, pulling within one at 20-19 before tying the set at 20-20. The teams traded points, and the score eventually knotted at 23-23. FSU closed the match with back-to-back points to win the set 25-23 and secure the 3-1 victory.
Florida State remains home and returns to conference play this weekend, hosting Georgia Tech Friday at 7 p.m. and Clemson Sunday at 1 p.m.
