Long Records Hat Trick; Seminoles Fall Just Short Against No. 24 Pittsburgh

4/5/2026 4:27:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State lacrosse team (3-11, 0-9 ACC) scored its most goals in an ACC game but fell 14-11 to No. 24 Pittsburgh (7-7, 3-6) on Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium.

Seven Seminoles scored in the contest, including three multi-goal performances. Sophomore midfielder Brooke Long recorded her first hat trick at Florida State and the second of her career, while adding two assists for a five-point outing.

Sophomore Lydia Ward and freshman Summer Harrell each tallied two goals, bringing their season totals to 15 and 22, respectively. Sophomore Meg Kenny extended her point streak to 10 games with one goal and one assist. Kate Christos, Alyssa Deacy and Brynn Perkins each added a goal.

Florida State also set a new single-game program best with 20 successful clears, surpassing its previous mark of 19, which had been reached twice earlier this season.

The Seminoles opened quickly, taking a 1-0 lead just 1:10 into the game as Harrell connected with Perkins. Following a Pittsburgh turnover, Long found Harrell to extend the lead to 2-0. The Panthers answered with two goals to tie the game before Deacy gave Florida State the lead with 5:17 remaining in the first quarter. After another Pitt goal, Long converted a free-position attempt to make it 4-3, but Pittsburgh scored in the final seconds to even the score at 4-4 after one.

Florida State again struck early in the second quarter, as Kenny assisted Long for her second goal. Pittsburgh responded quickly, and the teams traded goals throughout the period. Christos scored on a woman-up opportunity, while Ward added a free-position goal to keep the Seminoles within one. The Panthers closed the half on a 3-1 run to take a 9-7 lead into the break.

After a high-scoring first half, the third quarter slowed, with Pittsburgh netting the only two goals to extend its lead to 11-7.

Florida State pushed back in the fourth, outscoring Pittsburgh 4-3. Long completed her hat trick on a free-position goal, and Ward added another to cut the deficit to three. Kenny later scored off an assist from Ward to make it 14-10, and Harrell capped the scoring with 1:11 remaining off Long's second assist of the game.

Florida State continues its road swing Tuesday at Kent State. Opening draw is set for 11 a.m. at Dix Stadium in Kent, Ohio. Live stats and video will be available on Seminoles.com.
