TALLAHASSEE – Florida State baseball junior left-handed starter Wes Mendes was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced on Monday.
Mendes, who also was recognized on March 30, earns the fifth ACC weekly award for FSU in 2026. He is joined by fellow junior left-hander Trey Beard (March 14) and junior righty Bryson Moore (April 6) as Pitchers of the Week and sophomore first baseman Myles Bailey (March 23), the ACC Player of the Week.
It's the latest in a long list of accolades for Mendes in 2026. A National Pitcher of the Year Semifinalist by the College Baseball Foundation, Mendes was named to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List and Baseball America's Midseason Pitcher of the Year Watch List. He was recognized with Midseason All-America honors, on Perfect Game's first team and D1Baseball's second team. Mendes also earned several national team and pitcher of the week distinctions on March 16 and March 30.
Mendes' performance this week helped FSU to a 10-1 win over Pitt en route to a three-game sweep of the Panthers at Dick Howser Stadium. Through eight weekends of conference play and with two remaining, No. 14 Florida State has six series wins with three sweeps.
On May 2, Mendes threw a 9.0-inning complete game against Pitt. In his first career complete game of more than 7.0 innings, Mendes allowed just one run on five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts on 105 pitches. The complete game is the first by a Seminole of at least 9.0 innings since Drew Parrish on May 25, 2018, in a 5-2 win over NC State.
Improving to 8-3 on the season, Mendes faced the minimum in six of his nine innings and just two runners advanced past second base with less than two outs. It's his second complete game of the year, with the first in a 7.0 inning win at No. 12 Wake Forest on March 13.
Up next, Mendes and the Seminoles conclude a five-game homestand with a matchup against Jacksonville on Tuesday, May 5, at 6 p.m. ET, at Dick Howser Stadium. Tickets are available at Seminoles.com/Tickets and a game preview can be found here.
