CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The No. 10 Florida State softball team (48-8) rolled to a 9-0 win in five innings over No. 17 Stanford (37-13) on Friday afternoon in the ACC Semifinals in Charlottesville, Va. With the win, FSU advanced to its 28th ACC Championship Game in the 33 years of the tournament.
Freshman Bella Dimitrijevic got the start against the Cardinal and had her best outing of the season. Dimitrijevic allowed just one hit in four innings while striking out four. It was just the second time Dimitrijevic has pitched four or more scoreless innings - the last being against Rutgers on Feb. 28 where she pitched five scoreless innings.
The Seminole offense applied pressure early and often against the Cardinal. Isa Torres and Jaysoni Beachum drew back-to-back walks to start the game, and Ashtyn Danley ripped her first of two RBI doubles of the season to put the Noles up 1-0. Beachum came home on a wild pitch, and Danley forced a pickle on a fielder's choice and a wild throw to third allowed her to score to put FSU up 3-0 after one.
The Noles' offense took no break in the second inning as Makenna Sturgis and Torres hit back-to-back singles. Beachum picked up a RBI with a groundout, and Danley came through again with a RBI single to put the Noles up 5-0.
After a scoreless third, the Noles exploded for four runs in the fourth to put the Noles in run-rule territory. Sturgis and Torres hit back-to-back singles to set the stage for Beachum who delivered with her second RBI of the game. Danley pounded her second double down the right field line to score Torres. Anna Hinde drove home Beachum on a sac fly, and Danley beat a throw home on a fielder's choice to put the Noles up 9-0.
Danley come on in the fifth and closed the door to secure the run-rule win.
FSU will play either Duke or Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship Game at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN.
