Seminoles Fall to Auburn in Home Opener

TALLAHASSEE - The Florida State volleyball team (3-3) fell 3-1 to Auburn (3-3) Tuesday night at Tully Gymnasium.
Senior outside hitter Kyleene Filimaua led the Seminoles with 14 kills, three aces, nine digs and two blocks. Freshman outside hitter Sofia Moss recorded a team-high 11 digs while adding seven kills.
Junior setters Emma Lilo and Callie Kieffer finished with 19 and 18 assists, respectively.
Auburn opened the match with a 10-4 lead before a 4-1 Seminole run cut the deficit to three at 11-8. The Tigers pulled away to take the opening set 25-18, and a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers again jumped out to an early advantage in the second set, taking a 10-5 lead before extending it to 15-7 at the second-set technical timeout. Florida State battled back to cut the deficit to five at 22-17, but Auburn closed out the set 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead.
The Seminoles responded in the third set, opening with a 6-3 run to force an Auburn timeout. After holding a 10-6 advantage, FSU used a 5-2 run to extend its lead to 15-8 at the technical timeout. The Seminoles maintained control the rest of the way, winning 25-16 to force a fourth set.
Auburn held an 11-9 lead in the fourth set after Florida State overcame an early 10-4 deficit. The Tigers led 15-10 at the technical timeout and held off the Seminoles 25-18 to secure the 3-1 victory.
Florida State continues its six-match homestand Wednesday, against Louisiana at Tully Gymnasium with first serve set for 6 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on ACCNX, with live stats available on Seminoles.com.
